What's your favorite hat to wear ? Also do you prefer a straw hat when it's Hot like today .

Capt Quirk

I prefer a Fedora, even if it is hot. But, I don't wear it often these days. Just looks out of place when wearing shorts and flip flops. I also have never worn a straw hat, are they comfy?

Rowdy, You know my favorite hat. It is the one in my profile picture. When we were shooting with the Bluegrass Rangers you got a deal with Beaver Brand Hats back about 1996. The hat has Bluegrass Rangers in the hat liner. You hand formed the hat for me. It has a kettle curl and is black in color. Thanks again for getting it and hand forming it for me. I added the stampede string when I was out in Texas.
As far as straw hats, I have one from Mike's Hatters. It is ok in hot weather, but can't tell a lot of difference. Tj

By the way my profile picture was done by Greg Gaby of the Johnson County Rangers NCOWS Club

My favorite is my "Boss of the Plains" style hat.

I have a Beaver Brand "gambler" style hat that I'm partial to. It isn't appropriate historically, but I wear it outside of SASS. At a SASS event I'm currently sporting a derby, cause I'm more of a city slicker.

I bought a new boss of the plains but is was too small, had it stretched and was still too small
to where it gave me a headache. I bought my current hat for $10 at a NCOWS convention
then bought a tanned rattlesnake hide and made a hatband, been wearing it for years, and it's
looking like it. Gets pretty hot on some days, so I got a straw hat that I wear if its really hot.

Mine is a light grey custom made for me by Bob "All Hat" Dumez in California.  It's copied from a Randolph Scott hat from about 1955, six inch crown , five inch brim, and the best looking hat I've ever owned.

Trap, it was a 7 that they tried to stretch to 7 1/8.  I sold it a few years ago

WOW!!  Hard question.

I have 6 "cowboy" type hats.  I have a straw Top Hat for fun, I have beaver Top Had for Steampunk and a "John Bull" hat with Goggles for Steampunk, A couple of "palm" hats for warm weather (hot) and about 8 "thug" caps.  They each become my "favorite" on the day I wear em.

I have a large Sunbody straw hat the I shaped as a classic sombrero that is my favored hat in the summer.

I have a black fur/felt hat of decent quality (IIRC a  Resistol) that I purchased for about $30 at a resale shop.  I put a nice beaded and quilled hat band on it and opened up the crown. This is my go to hat.  I also have a large bowler with a curled brim that works for a town hat.

And, of course, a red cotton headband (sans hat) for an Apache, and a couple of raptor feathers (imitation by law) either as a drop or standing for Plains Indian impressions.

My favorite hat was crafted by Matt at Hamilton Dry Goods. ;D

I HATE the idea of my hat getting ruined by my sweat during the summer heat so I bought a Cody James Gus style sombrero before my last local match.

Can't really say, as I have 50-60 hats.  I can pick what guns I am going to use easier.

I wear glasses so any rain means either hat of some sort or constant probs with vision. I choose the hat, favorites I have a few:
- straw Stetson, any longer trip with open car is not compleate without it
- brown leather Minnetonka for winter or cold
- traditional Tilley, my go to when rain or sun hits when shooting
- a couple of This is Cambridge cycling caps, I choose to ignore the Velominati rules and also wear them when not with bike
- bunch of tradional baseball caps, Valtra tractor pulling team and Uberti being the 'stylish' favorites.

EDIT:
And obviously, just having noted in what section this thread is in, only the first 3 qualify ;)

I like my Wild Bunch drill instructor style Montana peak hats the best. My least favorite is my Spanish American War campaign hat.

Sure hated to hear Tim Bender had retired . The last hat I purchased was from him . My old favorite hat is getting in sad shape . That was why I purchased a hat from Tim . I guess you could say it's my Sunday hat .   I guess it's about time to ease it into service .

Here is a closer look at my old hat .
