US "Stamp" Plate/Tool
« on: March 19, 2017, 05:27:28 AM »
Hi, does anyone know where to get these embossing plates/stamps for the old US Flap Holsters with the line around?
Or do you do these by hand?

Best regards from Germany  8)

Hi Ray... I can get the nice aluminium "US" plate stamps. The oval measure 3 1/8" x 2" inches.

They have to be used with a press or a c-clamp. They are not something you can use a hammer on.

They are almost $100US now. Not sure of shipping cost into Germany, but my international shipping usually runs around $30US.

Hi, thanks for the help!

Uh.... that´s a lot of money, also shipping :P

I will check some custom Stamp makers in Germany. Probably I can get it cheaper there done in brass (also as a plate).
If I can´t get it, I will let you know ;)

Best regards

hello
years ago, i had some of the civil war brass plate stampings without the lead poured in. i trimmed the edges some and bonded the thing to a short oak block. hollow out the block some, try bondo, expoxy etc.  by pressing it into the damp leather it worked well. the small U.S. plates where once common also. also it is possible to cast your own out of aluminum, using charcoal and a sand mold.
regards

A friend of mine made his stamp by tooling the reverse image into heavy leather...then he sealed it with lacquer. It did a nice job when used with a letter press. He helped me do this holster with that leather stamp.

There is a business on ebay that makes them from a resin. IIRC they were around $20.

Grenadier, I looked and found this manufacturer on ebay. They make them from delrin. Here's a link to their custom page:

A couple of older sources were Weaver Leather and http://www.bunkhousetools.com/ .  These are several years old and I am not sure if they are still doing these but the BHT versions were priced right.
