Vectan BA10 powder and .45 ACP
« on: January 05, 2017, 08:40:29 AM »
Hey,

anyone got experiences with that (french) Vectan BA10 powder in a .45 ACP?
I´d like to use it for Wild Bunch. My first data would be 3.6 - 3.7 Gr powder and a 230 Gr LRN Silvermoly coated bullet.

Suggestions?

Btw, this french powder is available here in Germany and i wouldn´t like to change to another powder

Not my favorite Vectan powder, way too fast. Only use it for .32 wadcutter target loads.

With 230 gr RN lead bullets, you can use 3 to 3,24 gr max (speed: 777 f/s)

You get also good results with:

230 gr FMJ - FP bullet : 4 gr (751 f/s)

185 gr lead (lyman mold n° 452-389) : 3,24 to 3.54 gr (777 to 849 f/s)

201 gr lead (Lynx-HR n° P 1158) : 3,85 to 4,16 gr (813 to 869 f/s)

(data recorded on french MALFATTI Reloading Manual N°5)  ;)

Isn´t True Blue made by Ramshot? (Belgian PCL powder?)

There are no LRN 230gr bullets listet at the website of Vectan.

I like the cheap und fast burning BA10 a lot in my .38 and .45 LC
The first tests with 3.7gr of BA10 in a .45 ACP were good. No signs of high pressure and clean brass and my Norinco works.

FF; You should be OK, as lead bullets are believed to raise pressure LESS than Jacketed bullets. My personal rule is substituting Lead is OK as long as I don't go above the listed Max.

It is Belgian powder for a lot of cartridges, maybe not that fast so you have more volume and possibly better ignition with lighter loads
