32-40 Reloading Assistance
« on: August 27, 2015, 10:18:34 AM »
New cartridge for me.  Does anyone have any load data for Trail Boss in this cartridge?  Also, does anyone have any set of instructions for re-sizing 38-55 brass into 32-40?  Thanks

First question; Always start with the powder manufacturer.

Second question; Any .30-30 based case can be fireformed to .38-55 with about 15 grains of Bullseye with paper wadding jammed into the case. With a .32-40 the end result will approximate the full length of a .38-55. Others will be about 1/10th inch short, but still usable if there is nothing else available.

Ace,

I used 30-30 brass. First I ran them through a 32 Special sizing die, then I ran them through a 32-40 sizing die. I did trim them a little short because I loaded them with an RCBS 32 special cast bullet 170 gr and the crimp groove position would have made them over length. They were an easy resize.
