taking my Krag sporter to the range ...pics posted
« on: April 08, 2015, 03:00:35 PM »
Evening everyone

going to take the sporter out and see what she's capable of (sharp rifling and shiny now!)

at my club I need to sight in at 25 yards then move to 50 or 100 or 200...

should the 30/40 Remington factory ammo hit at POA at 25? low or high?

I can't find anything concrete googling off my phone

It depends on the sights you have.  Are you using the stock barrel sights, or is there some sort of reciever sight attached?

I can say, if the sights are the Milspec barrel sights, then the lighter bullet (180 grain vs the Military 220) will impact lower.  Less barrel time and recoil.

good point, thank you!

It has a Lyman apeture micrometer rear sight.
I will post pics when I get home.

I am starting to gather reloading components this weekend as well.

Make sure you have your needed equipment.   I hate to have to try to borrow a stapler, targets, extra earplugs, etc.  or go home and get them.  A check list helps.

An '03 stock?? Nope, looks like a regular Krag stock shortened, barrel shortened, and sights changed.

Interesting.  A cutdown infantry rifle, aftermarket reciever sight, but well done, looks like they cut part of the nose cap off and fitted the remainder reversed to retain the stacking swivel for some reason.

I'd actualy like to have this, because its allready fairly close to this: http://armasdefilipinas.blogspot.com/2011/07/m1899-philippine-constabulary-krag.html

A sling band, barrel sight and a handguard and you're pretty much there.

Maybe they used the stacking swivel as a forward sling mount?

I see what you mean about the carbine you reference.
I am on the hunt for the handguard and sling band and undecided about swapping the sight.

I suppose persona wise, a USMC rifleman could have swapped the carbine for his longer Krag.

a stretch I imagine but hey...
