Anyone looking for an Ordnance Revolver Mle. 1892?
« on: February 05, 2015, 07:45:00 PM »
This is an oddly listed one that I stumbled across by accident.  If I did not already have one I'd get it.  Pre 1898, does not need an FFL or a C&R.

I looked really closely at the pictures, and I can't see the ding where it was dropped even once!  Seriously, that seems like a pretty good deal on a nice pistol.

Never dropped, looks like they held on to it pretty tight, for 3 years before we finally showed up to help.

Looks good, nicer than mine, but I can't afford two, or to upgrade either.

Already have one. But somebody in our Muster group needs to grab this so we can have a "threesome" with Pony and I. (Is that not the right term? LOL)

No comment on the "threesome" thing.

However, I think Charles Issac also has one.

If we all fire together, we might take down "the Moro"!

Well, it's French, so "ménage à trois" would be correct...

I like my pair of the grandpa's to the 8mm pistol. I will stick with them.

My two 1873 French St Etienne revolvers - were converted to 44 Russian by a great gunsmith who is my good friend (that finicky 11mm outside lubed bullet was just too much of a pain) - which is a period correct conversion.

They shoot sweet with a 44 bullet and 1.0cc od 2F!

Two of the clubs down here let me shoot them at local matches.

Well, somebody got it, hope it shows up at a Muster someday.

My local SASS club lets us shoot all our GAF guns.  They really enjoy seeing what odd stuff we'll show up with!  Fingers McGee just had to try out the Berthier at our last Match.

We've always allowed such things at our club.  I've always figured if it's in the time period, it should work!  We've had everything show up from an '88 Commission rifle to a Colt 1905 .45 Automatic.    The first rule is I get to shoot all of it at least once!

One of my favorite memories is the first time I shot GAF at our local SASS club, using my Krag Carbine.  The guy behind me in the shooting order kept complaining about how I was going to slow things down, I'd take too long, etc.

That lasted until I'd gone through the first stage.  After the 3rd stage, he sidles up to me at the unloading table and mutters "Everything I've read about that rifle is wrong, isn't it."

Yeah, I've had to educate several people about the "slow" Krag.  They do really have to see it to believe it, though.  One guy at our local shoot said he didn't see a lot of people who could shoot a lever gun faster, and my thought was "You should see Charles run one!"  I'm stuck in the mud compared to his speed, and Chuck I can't even come close to yours in reloading that thing.  Love the rifle though!

A couple of years ago I shot my Krag in the Vintage Bolt High Power Match at Cornhusker State Games. The amusing part was that the other shooters, knowing that I was new to the discipline, all expressed sympathy for me when they realized that I was shooting my Krag. They told me that there was no way I would be able to get all the shots off in time as some of them had tried it and I wouldn't be able to do it. After we got through with the rapid fire string the guy next to me grinned at me and asked, "So, how many did you get off?" ;D I told him, "I finished before you. I actually should have slowed down a little." 8) He was shocked.  :o

Between my speed and my uniform, I got to tell a lot of them about the GAF.  8)

Out at the CMP Eastern Games held at Camp Butner, NC,  I fired the 220gr service load at 2000fps in a Krag rifle and one of the guys on my target block commented "Oh no, those guns load too slow".  I told him I'd get them all off and he said "I want to see that"   Ha Ha! We're gonna take this here Krag for a ride- Weeeeee! :D.

The other two guys on my target were also shooting clip loaders and both were Double Distinguished in Service rifle competition-and I outshot both of them too! (horn blowing ;D) I now have no desire to be a "Distinguished" shooter. It ain't all that. For me it's about enjoying life and having fun, not certificates.

Then after the match,  I walked up to the CMP Rifle Sales trailers and bought an unfired  (but in an ugly stock) M1 Garand for $599!  Not rebuilt, unfired!!!-except for test firing of course.

Here's my 8mm Ordnance Revolver. Haven't seen one go for this much since the 1970's!
