Experimental Postal Match
« on: January 21, 2014, 08:59:35 PM »
Gentlemen,
I would like at least four or five of you with access to a one hundred yard range volunteer to be guinea pigs in a new postal match I'd like to try out.  You would have to buy some half scale police silhouette targets (you can get them from Optics Planet, among other places, and they're pretty inexpensive), but the idea is to use cast bullet GAF loads.  The course of fire will consist of five rounds prone, five rounds sitting or kneeling, five rounds standing, and ten rounds rapid fire from sitting or kneeling.  You would fire this once a month, starting this month.  You can e-mail me pictures of your targets if you don't want to mail them, and I would suggest doing it that way to save postage.  I may come up with a match for pistols at a later time.  I forgot to mention this would be divided into the same classes we shoot in.  Let me know who's interested and we'll get started!

Given montana bullets has ceased production, I am reticent to shoot up my remaining 210 grain gc that I use for wr long range.

I may be able to come up with some Billy Bullet 170 grainers next month.  Given it is not really a timed match at this point any feeding difficulties associated with the Krag and FP vs RN bullets will not be a problem.  I shot 170 grainers on top of 10 grains AA2 last year that should be close to the 1400 FPS max, not having a Chrony I dont know actual velocity but they certainly are not flying anywhere near the 2000 - 2100 I get out of the 210 GC siting on top a a good amt of varget.

I will check at Ben Avery and see if the 1/2 Scale Police is a standard tgt they stock.  $0.25 each is probably much more expensive per target than i can get on line but not having to buy 1500 to get for $0.05 each I save a bundle.
19.25 Years ago I bought 500 each of the reduced range High Power Repair centers still have more than half of them.

Yes, those are the correct targets.  Optics Planet has them as the Target Barn B-34.  I believe the price is $21.95 per hundred, and it says free shipping.  One hundred targets will last a while for this.  As far as bullets go, I believe Pitsptr has a new source for 220 grain gas check bullets.  You might make contact with him.

I'm using 220 made by High Plains Shooters supply. Skip just started making these this winter and he started specifically for GAF members. Check it out.

Ned, do you have extra targets? I'd probably just buy some from you. If so put me down for participation.

I'm interested.

Optics Planet seems to have page after page of targets, would this be right?

Don't see any specifically marked "half scale".

That's not the one.  Type B-34 in their search feature.  It's the one from Target Barn.  Several places have them, and they measure 14 x 22.

Optics Planet is near my work. I could buy a pack and split them up. No shipping cost except what it would cost to get them to you but we'd pay tax. It may not be helpful

We could get a single copy reduce it by a factor of 36 and shoot it at 100 inches

That's what I'm shooting for! (Pun intended!)  It only takes twenty-five rounds, and it's a reason to get out and shoot our old rifles!

Already had a good question!  For the Rapid Fire portion, you can start kneeling or sitting.  (You don't have to start standing and drop into position.)

Hi

As long as my kid got the package before someone stole it, I have 100 targets in Wichita. I hope to get home to pick them up Friday night.  I also need to work up a load for the Rossi 92.  I didn't think y'all would like me using the .270 Winchester and 20X scope...

later     ;D
