Thanks, Pay Dirt!

When I decided to do 'mercenary soldier of fortune' for Wild Bunch, I wanted info on the wearing of knee high puttees. I was familiar with the wrapping of puttees as they were still issue when I was a young soldier in the Canadian Army, but they were wrapped ankle high.
I resourced the Osprey series of books and was amazed at the variations in wrapping. I was familiar with the top down, bottom up regimental differences, colours, etc., but the foreign variations were another matter.

I've yet to ever get them right on the first attempt, taking several tries at it so that they overlap uniformly and more importantly, finish off where they should. I've opted to wear them with a little blouse at the knee to make them more comfortable as opposed to what you see most often in period photos.

I've seen pics of Japanese/Chinese soldiers where they wound the tape cross wise down and back up and others where the tape was finished off at the top as per the British custom. I've played with both. Generates lots of curiosity.
