catch up on some projects

have way too much leave saved up at work so had to take some time off.
decided to stay at home and catch up on some projects instead of burning gas and money. kinfe sheath,

wet formed round ball pouch for black powder.

right now its full of size 7 shot till it dries.

finaly hit me on pattern for the 22 holster.
so i finaly got started on it. now oilled and drying before i can sew it.
not sure what color to use yet.

You've been busy, Knucklehead. Your stuff looks good. That .22 holster would look great in dark walnut or black. Be sure to post a pic when it's done.

I think it's about time i do something in the way of a holster..Nice stuff..I have a little baby hammerless that needs one,maybe just maybe i can do it.

I'm leaning more toward using a resist on the holster and heavy antique on it. that's after i get holster wet formed with additional areas creased so the antique will stay there as well. I'm thinking antique black

  Very nice pattern,  can you explain the process to a new guy what you mean by "oiled and drying before I can sew it"....?  I don't know what I'm doing yet. Thanks.

ok I toolled the leather while wet, let it 90% dry after toolling was done.
when leather was about 90% dry(just a good guess) I put on a light coat of saddle oil made by bee natural leathercare.
when you get leather wet to tool it pulls natural oils out of the leather as you work the leather.
the saddle oil puts those oils back into the leather. it will help the leather take on the dye more uniformly.
you let the light coat of oil soak in to the leather for 8 hours before you do any dying or finishing. i let it sit over night
I find that the dye color is better doing this method. some people on this website use extra virgin olive oil. to me that's for cooking.

I'm here to learn and I really appreciate the info knuckehead.  I had no idea and that's probably why my dye jobs come out strange.  They kinda look antique, but I would like to do some that are even colored throughout.  Some day, maybe.........
