TwoWalks Baldridge,  The photo of the Uberti Regulator 4 3/4" 44-40 is the way it came in the box.  I believe the revolver is from 1995 and I am smitten with the 44-40 bug.   I did hand rub them with tung oil, but the grain pattern was always the way you see it.  Here are some other photos of that one.


Now the grips in this next photo are lacewood, and I have not yet been able to determine who made them.  I did send photo to Outlaw Grips and received a very friendly reply and helpful information, but they did not make them either.   I did not post this earlier because the grips are not on a SAA clone, but on a Colt SAA in 44-40.

Please tell us more about lace wood.   Is it a specific tree species?  Or a grain pattern found in a common tree?  Where is it native?

Lacewood is a hardwood from Brazil (South America)  Outlaw grips has Snakewood and Lacewood grips available.   Some grain patterns can be similar with quartersawed hardwoods or sycamore.  I'm not a woodworking craftsman nor do I make grips.  But I do like nice looking woodwork.

You are a lucky feller for sure - almost every set of factory grips I get are plumb ugly.  the lace wood are handsome as well.

Here is one of mine.  Originally chambered in 45 long Colt, it is now fitted with an auxillary cylinder chambered for the 45 ACP cartridge. 



The grips are a pair I made from antler.  I removed the bark and applied a coat of wax.

Thank you.  That pair is the densest antler I have found to date.  I have made several more but the antler was a lot more porous and I have not found a suitable filler.

I somehow missed that this question was directed at me.  Sorry.

That's just an inexpensive Panasonic camera under natural light (on a cloudy day).  I enjoy arranging those kind of pictures and many of them end up being wallpaper backgrounds on my various computers and phones.  My big issue, though, is that they run about 4-5 MB per photo and when I try to reduce the size for posting online, I get some wierd results.  Not only do I lose detail, but the colors seem to shift a bit and blotches appear in places.  The photos give a hint of what I want to show, but they aren't nearly as good looking as the originals.

Anyway, thanks for the comment.  That holster and belt are among the things I'd grab if the house was on fire.  I'm glad I could afford them--they are the best quality and most historically accurate of anything I've ever seen.

  Started life as a 44-40, then I fitted a .44 Special cylinder to it and since the finish was worn, tried my hand at "antiquing". That really wasn't necessary as I wear the pistol just about every time I'm outside and after riding for hours on the tractor, cutting firewood, moving hay, etc., it's taken on a personality of its own. But don't let those purty looks fool you, she's all business:
