This is a Turnbull Manufacturing Company reproduction of an 1870's, Ainsworth inspected Colt Cavalry model.  The revolver was completely made from USFA parts last year by a single Turnbull technician.   It has the special brushed military finish with charcoal bluing, a dark, low contrast color case hardening used in the 1800's, with nitre blued screws, trigger and cylinder pin.  It also has hand-stamped vintage markings including an inspector "A" on most individual parts with the serial number stamped on the frame, trigger guard, backstrap and outside of the cylinder.  The caliber is stamped on the front, left side of the trigger guard (".45 CAL") and U.S. is stamped on the left side of the frame along with a two-line patent date.   An "OWA" Ainsworth cartouche is stamped at the bottom left side of the one-piece, straight-grained walnut grips.  The hammer is hand checkered with a coarser pattern similar to the early Colt SAA and is also color case hardened.   It shoots well too, right at the aiming point at 18 yards using 255 grain black powder rounds so it must have been adjusted by Turnbull.   Turnbull has some outstanding craftsmen when it comes to restoring or duplicating vintage handguns and rifles.

You see, JD, you don't need that new camera after all . More money to spend on shootin' irons !

Turnbull does do great work and that is one fine piece of workmanship.
"I have, in my day, thieved cattle, your lordship. But none that were under my watch" ("Is that what passes for honor with a MacGregor", Earl of Montrose), "What passes for honor with me, is likely not the same as with your Lordship, when my word is given, it is good"
