Two Flints

Hello SSS,

Came across this Spencer Rifle on one of the Online auction sites:

The New Model Spencer Military Pattern Rifle was introduced to production at Serial Number 101000, making this one of the first hundred produced. Bayonet lug front sight and folding ladder rear sight, with the "N.M." marking at the chamber and the three-line Spencer address on top of the frame. Smooth straight grip stock, with three barrel bands on the forearm, "C.S.A./1861" painted on the left side of the stock next to a Confederate flag, "TEXAS" on the right next to a Lone Star flag and steer head, and an "M" marked buttplate.
BBL: 30 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 50 rimfire
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips:
Serial Number: 101091
Condition: Very fine, showing an even mix of 50% blue and a brown patina on the barrel, with light handling marks and spotting. Frame is good, with silvering along the edges and some strong color. Stock is fine, with an overcoat of varnish with the attractive decoration, showing scattered storage marks and scratches overall. Mechanically excellent.

This looks really weird. It has the look of a '65 Spencer action (hammer, extractor). I really can't tell if it has a '65 tube in it. The barrel looks like a '60 rifle but it probably isn't. I'm guessing this is one of the post-war pieces/conversions.

You could use "Citrus Strip" to remove the paint, and retreat with boiled linseed oil.
