Anyone know of a clothing retailer that handles War of 1812 Uniforms?  The Bicentenial for that is coming up especially at Fort McHenry in Baltimore.

I believe C & D Jarnagin handles some of those. They do nice work, too.

Jarnagin is a good source, but their "1813" coatee's trim is all wrong and most units do not allow it.

Their stuff is great, but pricey (as most good tail coats are), however they do have some overruns from a project that they sell at reasonable prices if they have your size.

All in all, in spite of the bicentennial, there is in reality very little support for 1812 short of little mom & pop cottage industry that is hard to locate and costly.

They are the best there is.  Their CO, Steve Abolt, is the best tailor for 1810-1850's clothing there is, but I warn you because of the amount of work and the quality of materials, he doesn't come cheap...at the same time, its worth every penny he charges.  Steve is also usually the American CO at any 1812 event and is usually the garrison commander at Fort McHenry every year.

Do the Canadians celebrate the aniversary of their burning of our White House every year?  I have to admit, US forces invaded Canada first and did not do well as I recall.  Almost but not quite old enough to have been on that trip.

Thanks for the great links.  I just ordered a M1805 Harpers Ferry Flint Pistol from Dixie Gun Works.  They had them on sale.  So now I have the Harpers Ferry Rifle and Pistol.

The only thing wrong with that picture is that the M1805 was originally barreled as a .69 caliber smoothbore.  The modern repro's are .58 cal and rifled.

I wonder if I can get it sleeved for .54 cal to match the rifle or get it bored to the original .69 cal smooth bore?

Logisticly, it would make more sense having it the same caliber as the rifle.  Historically it should be .69 caliber.

My head is beginning to hurt.

Actually, the Harpers Ferry pistol was .54 smoothbore, it was from the M1807 contract until the M1816 they were .69.

I never fully understood why the repros were all .58 rifled?  Even when Euroarms started to offer the M1803 rifle in .54 the pistol didn't follow.  Go figure.  Lining it to a smooth .54 is actually a really good idea that I didn't really ever think of.

Very ammusing!  Historically accurate and bubbling over in typical British humor.  But you will note that they stopped their bragging when they got to New Orleans.  even though they used a bit of poetic license when they copied the tune of Johnny Hortons "The Battle of New Orleans" where the Brits went running through the briar, brambles etc.

Yes, I did think it funny and in poor taste.
