Greetings All,

Been a good while from my last posting, but I check forum every day.  As crazy world of mine is showing signs of settling a little, the thought of heading back to the range with the 76 is there.  Been keeping up with reloading components to keep the rifle fed.  Currently my favorite powder is AA5744.  This powder is not to be found with current supplies though a message to Accurate Arms shows they are still offering it and hope to have it back available - someday.  This leaves folks who use 5744 in a position of needing a backup.  Now before you go with get black powder, yeah I know but smokeless is my preferred choice ;) .  With all this building up, here is the question - has anyone tried Vihtavuori powders in any of the 76 cartridges?  Seems this stuff in various forms is available and while high it isn't break the bank level yet.  I was reading on there N130 use in 45-70 for trapdoor Springfield loads and it seems to do well.  Before charging off and starting a work up figure to see if anyone has any experience using the brand and specifically in the 76 cartridges.  Thanks ahead of time!!!!!

I have tried Varget, but it didn't work very well. I have found my rifles really like IMR 4198, which I have lot's of, and the supposedly discontinued Shooter's World Buffalo Rifle, which is supposed to be the same as 5744. I have some VV N130 but haven't tried any in 76 calibers.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

I have had good luck with 4198 and 4227. I recently looked everywhere for 5744 with no luck.

PB, i have been loading vvn-133 in my 40-60 Chappie for about a year . I use a lot of Imr 4198 & Imr 3031 but was looking for back up powder and found some vv133, it is a hair colder than Imr3031 ( in my loads). 133 seems position sensitive,so i use fillers.25.8 gns. w/.3 filler(teddy bear stuffing) get's me 1360-1380's fps w/ 403168 Lyman @ .213 +-.YMMV.
King i think the vv130 will be a better choice,for our 76's.

Pinto, just came back from the range. I shot 10 rds. 5 rds w/pc'd bullets (403168 @ .213gn+-)& 5rds w/ lead bullets.

  Pc'd rds averaged 1441 fps. N-133 @27.5w/ .5 filler.
lead rds avg; 1276. N-133 @28.2, no filler. This load is accurate in my 40-60, i'm the only fault.

Thanks Mr. Slamfire!!  sounds like the N-133 is working great in the 40-60!  As of now think I have decided next trip to reloading shop that is normally fairly well stocked even in lean times I will pick up some N-130 and try it in the 45-75.  Silver lining to everything mostly, this lean times of normal supplies for reloading has moved me to try something new.  I dont move fast, but as I get the chance will bring everyone along for the adventure if interested.  Thanks again for letting us know how the N-133 is doing.

I've got some loads for the 45/60 posted on the loading data threads- I had good luck with it.
