What makes it Vintage ? That's a Excellent question . I would say anything up to 1899 .

J.S. good question, but a rifled barrel on a 12 or 20 gauge shotgun is legal.
I think it's a case of technology going around the intent of the law. I don't
think muzzleloaders were ever expected to be shooting 2000 fps either.
I probably shouldn't have posted this here, but I wanted to tell Rowdy
a huntin story.

Rowdy, whats wrong with your shirt? Has the thread worn out or is the buckskin actually wearing
through. The last couple of years I've just been tanning the hides that I've shot, I'm thinking of
making a coat or a pair of pants. I had a pair of pants made out of chrome tanned leather, they
suck to wear compared to brain tanned. I put on a seminar on brain tanning at a NCOWS conv.
a few years ago, did you or anyone else try brain tanning. It will give you very much satisfaction
to be able to tan your own hides, but it's NOT easy to learn or do.

I love the brain tanned shirt I got from you . But she is wearing   out .  I have a few places on it where the campfire was   popping and there are a few small holes burned in it . Didn't get to have a fire this Deer season to windy .

Rowdy, you're worrying about a couple "character" holes. One day when I was smoking
hides I had two nice big beautiful soft hides stapled together and had a flashover in my
smothered fire. In one big WHOOSH they got so hot they shrunk in half. 16 hours of
hard work worth $250 gone in a flash  ;D ;D ;D ;D

That sounds like my luck . My shirt is taking on lots of character . A few blood stains and few holes from the campfire and just wear and tear .With Deer season over I am back after Coyotes . They are hard critters  to get a bullet in . But ever now and then they mess up and get to close .

I made some 3lb sticks of deer summer sausage, I cut them in half and give them to the people
who let me hunt and we have them here for munchies during the holidays. I use a sausage kit
and add garlic and mustard seed, it really turns out good. CELEBRATE the hunt!!!

Well Rowdy, an update on my attempt to shoot a patched R.B. through a whitetail. Wanna hear all the excuses first? Deer showed up too soon (kinda startled me), last 10 minutes of shootin time on a cloudy day, (kinda dark) with a peep sight, fingers were kinda cold, and OH SHIT!!! that set trigger is light!!! I told Quickfire I didn't really consider it a miss because the gun went off before I had the sights where I wanted them, but he called B. S. Pretty sure it was the closest "miss" in my 35 year hunting career! The next day  however, I put a saboted 300 grain Hornady FXT bullet through a doe at 162 paces with my scoped inline. Muzzleloader season ended in NE yesterday at 30 minutes after sunset, but it's only 11 months till next December! I'II BE BACK! (I just got a .58 cal. Pedersoli Kodiak double rifle to play with, so next year I could potentially miss twice real fast!)

Don't know if this is considered "vintage" hunting, but I used my Uberti Bisley in 45 Colt. Range was just shy of 45 yds.

I'm pretty sure God made javelinas for targets, not for eatin! I made chili with a south Texas javelina and it was horrible! Maybe it needed to be marinated or smoked? Nice shot with the Bisley!

Yep, that's pretty much how it is with javelinas. I normally leave them alone, but that morning I was fed up with them running the deer off.
But Sunday, the last morning of season this spike finally showed up and I fired upon him from 48 yds. out. A high shoulder hit put him down immediately.

He's been hanging in the cool shop for almost three days and I intend for him to hang several more. The wife made some stew out of venison New Years Eve and it was to DIE for! That buck had hung for about 10 days and the meat was extremely tender.

Thanks. It takes me practicing shooting at 50 yds. alot to make shots at that range. And  with the relatively small rear sight on the Colt repros I'm finding 50 yds. is about my limit.

Today is the last day of pheasant season, I wanted to take my young lab out once more
but the temp was -6 with a windchill of-30 so I changed my mind. I was going to use the
stevens dbl, hopefully there will be more pheasants next year, they're starting to come
back a little, but nothing like years ago. $7.00 corn took out a LOT of habitat a couple
years ago.
