Single shot with ejectors (H&R Topper) Double barrel without ejectors (any CAS standard SxS double) or lever action (1887)

No slide/pump/trombone allowed.  A technical limitation independent of time period.

A smoothbore single shot or double could be used in forager, the best example being the M1881 trapdoor "forager" 20 ga.  BUT! As we use CAS spec ammo, we have a Minimum bore of 20 required, max of 10. This would preclude the use of the various  modern .410 smoothbore lever rifles.  I suppose  you could use one of these as a rifle in the "Militia" class, but would be limited to single projectile ammo.

now that you mention the '81 forager it reminded me of the qustions i had on that model      1) what kind of sights did it have  & 2) since it was basically a 20 ga carbine did it have the saddle ring & bar.

No sights, just a bead on the muzzle like most shotguns.  No saddle ring.  It was largly made up of "condemned" (non Milspec but still servicable) items accumulated at Springfield armoury.    http://www.trapdoorcollector.com/m81.html
