R & D Gunshop
« on: December 30, 2008, 10:36:24 PM »
Hello!
Does anyone know if these people are still in business?  They've got a couple of my barrels, and I haven't heard anything in quite a while.  Their website has evidently been suspended.  Thanks!

I've heard nothing to suggest at Kenny Howell's R&D Shop it's Business as usual  :-\.. Surely the Drop-in Cyl are still in production.
I know his website is deluted with spam and a responce is almost none... Have you tried a call ?

Granted it's been some time since my last dealing with them, but I found the phone the best responce.
One email when weeks before it was answered and follow-ups were not answered at all.
His back log as stated to me was quite long wait... In my case 11 months.  :-\
when planets align...do the deal !

I sure hope so.  I love his work:  I'm just concerned about getting my barrels back, and I've heard a few horror stories from when John Gren went out of business.  I hope Kenny's business is doing fine!  Thanks!

Kenny's wife recently died and she was the one who handled the business side, while Kenny handled the gunsmithing side.  Not sure what impact this has had on his production.

For whats it worth, he typically has a good year of backlog, sometimes more.  I have a friend who says a two year wait is not unusual.

Its better to call him than send an e-mail though.

It is sad to hear that his wife passed on.

She filled my order for the conversion kit for my 1851's.

I am awaiting some springs from R&D for work that had to be done to my pistols - the timing went off after 3 years of use as my main match pistols.

My gunsmith was amazed that the internals were pretty much all original to the BP guns.

I may just have someone I know make me a spring until the actual ones can arrive.

Sorry to hear about his wife.  I was just a little concerned about the website being suspended.  Thanks for the information!

I have some parts on order from them also. I sent an email the other day and this is the reply: "We are closed until Monday Jan 5 for some catching up and changing over to the new business name: Howell Old West Conversions.
Thanks
Regina Howell"

That's all I know!

Tks David.

Your gear is still doing yeomans service for me.  Wish my Naval frogs I wear with your gear aged as well.

Hope you are having a great new year.

I will see if my pard gets the springs we are waiting for over next couple weeks and let everyone know.

I've got two 1860 Army barrels in to have dovetailed sights put on, and I'm really looking forward to shooting them with the conversion cylinders!  They'll work great for my 1860's city marshal impression.
