M1876 "blue stripe" blankets
« on: February 26, 2008, 06:36:30 AM »
Fort McKavett SHS in Texas is having some M1876 "blue stripe" blankets made, they will be correct size, color, weight etc.  As high a museum quality as can be, but the compnay needs an order of 50 to set up production and the cost would be between $115-$145. Any IWP reenactors who might be interested, should e-mail  the Curator fortmckavettdragoon@yahoo.com

Unfortunately,  I just got word that there are only 2 people interested in having these made.  He needs 50 by June.  Looks like we might be looking to the Pakistanis for these also.   :'(

I've got a couple gen-u-wine old Army OD blankets you can borrow if you're cold, Don.   ;D

I'd LOVE to have one of those blankets as made in Pitspitr's post OR Dr. Bob's, but I'm going to have to settle for FCS's (un)Civil War types.  They certainly WERE used during the Indian Wars era (like other Government Issue equipment) until stocks were depleted.

Heck - you could have quite a collection if you only had the various blanket representations that were used back then.  I saw at LEAST 4 different types of Modern blankets during my Army days.  And that doesn't count Navy, Air Force, Marine and Coast Guard types.

Sportsman's Guide?  They have some interesting goodies - I could spend a LOT buying from them ... more than I already have!  ;)

I let my membership lapse with them.   After ammo prices went up, I find I can buy from other vendors cheaper including the club discount.

WE HAVE PROGRESS (after almost a year).  Samples have been made and are being revised.  The plan is to offer both the M1876 (grey with blue stripes) and the M1885 (medium blue with dark blue stripes for the Span Am guys!!!).  These will be 100% wool, very tightly woven with the block "US" stamped on them!  Sadly though the cost will be about $250 each (about what youpay for a good point blanket now).  These will be made by a man who is the authority in pre-civil war blankets and his items are in the hands of museums and the most picky of the hardcore living history types!  Those who are interested can contact me at: F_Trooper@yahoo.com and I will try to put you on an "UPDATES" list.  Currently the samples have been forwarded to a well noted Indian War's historian for final tweeking!
