cabin fever
« on: January 22, 2005, 03:51:21 PM »
Lordy, the last couple of days I have seen tempers flare and feelings get hurt on TFS. The Wire and here in Cas City, my question is it just plain old mid winter cabin fever or what?

I am going to wander out the back door and unleash a dozen or so 45-90 rounds downrange at my gong and when I get back I want to see happy smiling pards.

I have posted this here as there seems to be less lynch thinkin' then anyplace else. ;D

I reckon we're getting a bit shack-whacky, but it seems to run in cycles too.

I'm probably as guilty of it as anyone.

I'll watch myself closer.

Uncle Eph, I'm always smiling, sometimes it down the barrel, but I'm always smiling.

I think it's too much big city living.  It's Winter time and if'n you had to split your own wood to stay warm you wouldn't have the energy for all that rambunctiousness.   :)

Micheal, I agree with you, I live out on the baldies of Eastern Oregon, far enough from town that I can p## outside without upsetting the neighbors and have 600 yards to shoot out the backdoor and my dogs don't have to be chained, life does not get much better then that.

speaking of shooting; I shot 18/24 at my 400 yard gong, came in the house to the smell of the ham cooking and I now have the rifle clean and the brass soaking.

yep, I'm smiling ;D ;D ;D

We had snow and freezing rain here today. All in all not a bad day to stay in the cabin. I just fired up the Dillon and got started on my ammo for this season.

Uncle Eph, that 45-90 sounds like some fun shootin. I have one coming from Shiloh, but it won't be ready until September. :'(

J D, I owned a Shiloh in 45-90 many moons ago when they were still being built in NY, a fine rifle, but being a hardcore Remington man I had to let it go.

the rifle I was shooting today was a Hepburn that I rebarreled a few years back, I shoot it at paper matches and I shoot rolling blocks at buffalos.

I have a RB laying on my workbench right now that will be a 50-110 when I get done with it, I doubt that I will be shooting this summer, but come next year..............................

Those sound like some nice rifles, Uncle Eph. I have a .43 Spanish Rolling block in excellent shape that I need to seriously start loading for. Like so many other Military Rollers of that era it had a oversized bore and the best it would group at 100 yards was 12 inches. I just had the chamber reamed so I can load the proper sized bullet. I guess now insted of .43 Spanish it is a 44-77, hopefully I can get it to shoot.

I do like Hepurns, that action has it's own look. I heard a little while back that Steve Garby at Ballard Rifles was going to reproduce a Hepurn, have you heard anything about this?

Ya' hit it right on the head, Forty Rod.  The weather, lately, has conspired to keep most folks bottled up just a bit, and it does wear them thin in fairly short order.  However, there does seem to be some sort of cyclic pattern to the grumpiness, too, regardless of the weather.

Buck, if that is the outfit back in Oklahoma that was building the Hepburn, I do believe that they have gone under.  matter of fact a pard of mine was trying to buy up all thier tooling and any extra parts they had but was told that someone else beat him to them and the word around the fire was that it was Steve Grabe, I don't know if that is true or not.

J.D., Ballard has started making a fine looking RB, but I keep hearing talk about the Hepburn but who Knows.

we had a Chinook several days ago and that was the end of our ice and snow (for now) and then we had a couple of days up in the high 50s, but today the fog has rolled in so no shooting and I am not in the mood to reload so the cabin fever will mostly be setting in.

No, Uncle Eph, don't let it get to you, please?

Come on over, we made fresh tortillas and are going to watch football. The 1/4 mile driveway is a sheet of ice, but as long as you are careful, it's passable.

AnnieLee, I fixed a ham yesterday for dinner so today me and the grandkids started a big pot of potato soup with lots of ham and now I got them sorting brass.  They are 7 and 4 so I will be resorting a lot when they get done, but it is better than locking them in the closet.

I guess I ain't got time for cabin fever right now.

Forty Rod, the way I see it there is a world of difference between grumpy and a bad case of cabin fever, I have been grumpy for years and everyone tolerates it, but when I start pacing and glaring at the walls daring them to close in a little more then family and friends head for the hills.

Pat McMannus wrote a reat story about cabin fever.

Tensleep, have you tried super glue on the pesky split cases? :o ;D
