That looks great, pard. I like the self-closing hinge idea.

It's hard to see in the photo, but did you glue a piece of leather to the jaws? If not, that's a good thing to do so you don't mar your work.

Havn't got there yet :)  after watching C.B. instuctional DVD I went to his web site and looked his pony over, and made mine just like his.

Marshall Will, ask TW about his baking soda dye, I think it needs to be put in the new post you started,it looks awesome!!
I am going to use it on my new rig because it looks very Antique :o :o  I am still working on a copy cat formula for Tan Kote,
I have a friend of mine dad who is a great chemist with a lab that has the state of the art equitment, but he retired 4 years ago, and was still helping them out, i don't know if he still is, but I am going to find out, if there is a will they is a way.

I want to thank all you Pards for the Kuddo's on my little Pony!
Maybe I will get lucky and find my end pieces this weekend ??? ???

i think yours is more of a Palomino though
I don't know TW it looks more like a sorrel with a blaze to me ;D
I got luck at an auction one time. I bought a antique stiching horse for a little of nothing because it was gimpy on one leg. got it home, braced it up a little and it works good as new.

Ace,

pony looks great. use very thin leather on the jaws, like 1 to 2 oz leather.
that way you can wet form it around the jaws and secure it on the outside of the jaws. this way you dont have
anything comming into contack with your project other than the leather covered jaws.

also one more question i just gotta ask. what kind of wood did you use? it almost looks like walnut.

wish i had some of the wood that you used for my lathe  :( :(

`Knucklehead, You got it it is home grown and sawed walnut! Before i got hurt, I did a lot of wood working, making desk, end tables, display case, memory boxes, ect. The finish is terriable >:( >:( i got in a hurry, necause i wanted it done! I never do a job like that! I finished it with Minwax semi gloss poly, and when i do use poly, i allways sand down every coat, our humidity has been in the 80% range for 2 months, and I would of never got it done, it would of just balled up and made a mess, so i just put 3 coats and put it toghter, I normaly use boiled linseed about 8 coats, then 4 coats of Johnsins Paste wax, the last c oat i let turn to a haze, and take my bid buffer and burn the wax into the wood. the water base finishes work okay if we have low humidity, but the only time you can use it heard is winter when use the heater and draw the moisture out of the air.

See Ya
