454 casull

My local gunshop has a Puma 92 in 454 Casull.  Forgive my ignorance but this is as I understand a much stronger round than the 45 LC.  But can 45 LC be fired through this rifle as well?

I know for a fact that the .45 LC  round can be fired from a .454 Casull revolver but a rifle? I'm not certain about that ask your gun dealer or call/ write Puma.

             It should be stated in the manual that came with your Puma, and or a seperate notice to the buyer as to what type ammo to use. the last time I checked the price of 454 casull, it was $100.00 a box of fifty so at $2.00 a round this can get expensive, like Cyrille said you can use the 45 long colt round in the 454 Casull revolver, but it might not work  right with the 45 colt in your Puma rifle ( IMHO )

"But so far my Legacy Puma 454 is still tight after 500+ rounds of 60 to 65,000 psi pressures, and another 250 rounds of my heavy handloads.  This 92 is a little different than the others Rossi used to manufacture, now Legacy.  The biggest change is what they did to the loading tube.  No more screw cutting!  Like the 22RF rifles that have a loading tube that has a spring rod that goes over the cartridges into the tube to give the rounds tension, so the cartridges will cycle, a scaled up version of this is on the new 454 Legacy.  It opens at the muzzle with a twist and the rod is withdrawn to the loading port cut into the tube itself, so you can just drop the rounds in.  I was able to get 10 .45 long Colt rounds in the tube and still close it, and it allowed nine .454 rounds. But short of getting into a war,  nine rounds is certainly enough."

I got to thinking, after my last post on this subject, and it occured to me that if a .22 lever action rifle can handle both the .22 LR and the .22 short, there is a strong possibility that  the Puma in .45 caliber should be able to handle both the .454 and the .45 LC but I would either run a few dummy rounds of each cartridge through the action or consult a gunsmith or contact Puma as I suggested in my first post on this subject.

Thanks for all the info.  I have a Puma 92 in 45 LC and then just the other day I saw another Puma 92 in 454 casull.  Its such a good price I may have to get it.  Just trying to see that if I want or need to I can shoot 45 LC in the 454.

 I have a Puma 92 in .454 Casull (stainless carbine) and Yes it will shoot the .45 Colt rounds without a problem. I have several hundred smokeless rounds and about 200 BP loads of .45 Colt through mine and have not had a single problem. I have even shot a box or two of .45 Schofield rounds through it. With the Schofield rounds, I had one failure to chamber and noticed that the action was less smooth during the chambering stroke of the lever.

I sent my .454 to Steve at "Steve's Guns" (Nate Kiowa Jones) and had him change the sights and work his magic with an action job on it. It came back slicker than ever and feeding .45 Colt like grain through a goose.

I don't use this rifle as a main match gun because it is too short to hold the required 10 rounds for a stage, but it makes a great saddle gun and/or truck gun when I am out in the woods.
