I'm a professional Layabout and Ne'er-do-well. Officially, I'm retired, rather by crook than by hook; in '95, I was given the option of stopping work, and having a good shot at a reasonably long life, or continuing to work the rotating shifts, mostly graveyards and swings, and long hours under often severly stressful conditions, and probably not surviving for more than a couple of years longer; I took disability, and officially retired in late '96. At the time of my "retirement", I was working as a "System Operator" (to most people, it would be the equivalent of a Senior Dispatcher) in a power company regional switching center. Earlier in my career, I was a Lineman, and a Substation Construction and Maintenance Electrician, but the life of a construction guy finally caught up with me, and I had to find something else to do that was less abusive to the old bod, so I wound up in operations; not my preferred choice, but it kept the wolf away from the door.
