For the Ladies: an award suggestion.
« on: October 10, 2008, 05:47:20 PM »
Currently, the GAF has no gender based catagories.  Frankly I have no problem with this, the ladies are elligible to win in every class, and have a great deal of latitude in their costuming.  Still, it would perhaps be appropriate to have an award at our muster that is exclusivly theirs.

The Name that sticks in my mind is "Lorena" the legendary "Girl I left behind Me" song of the Victorian era.  Perhaps a poll among the ladies at the Grand Muster, of the woman amongst them most exemplfying the purpose and spirit of the GAF.  She must be a competitor.   Thus a woman could in theory win both the Brigade Championship, and the "Lorena" award.  What think you?

I welcome discussion, and the name is only a suggestion from my BP smoke fogged mind.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

I like the idea.  And I think the award should have a "Yellow Ribbon".

I don't know guys, in my eyes it would be reverse discremination. The women can win the IT too but
the men wouldn't be able to win the Lorena. Leave things as is.

I will take this suggestion for a "spriit" award under consideration.

I would like to emphasize that the ladies are eligible to compete for the Iron Trooper Award so we don't need a separate IT type award based on gender.

I find myself thinking that we want to be very careful about proliferating awards.  Just how many do we really need/want?  From what I recall of the frontier military, rewards (medals, etc.) were a rare thing.  If we are not very careful about this we get like SASS categories where it seems like there is one for every shooter.  In my opinion, having too many awards cheapens the process and soon they are essentially meaningless.  The KISS principle applies here.

I like Rattlesnake's title, but agree with the reverse discrimination deal.
