Leo, Buddy Knox and the Rythem Orchids were from my home town of Dumas, Texas. Jimmy Bowen( later became a biggee in Nashville record production), Buddy Knox, Donnie Laneare, and I don't remember his first name but his last name was Steele.  "Party DoLL"  Jimmy's dad was our Chief of Police at the time ("Ace" Bowen).  They had an Orchid and White 57 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser contvertible and matching covered two wheel trailer.

When I was a youngin I had a copy of the American Grafitti soundtrack.  I played Party Doll over an over.  I thought he shoulda been remembered up there with Eddie Cochrane and Gene Vincent (neither of of which had a song in the movie).  Everytime I hear it now I think of the Wolfman and his melting popsickles.

L’il girl’s ole Daddy had a car set up ta drive.
Stole they keys one night ‘n took me for a ride.
Turned up the music just as loud as it would go.
Blew out the speakers in a ’47 Ford.

She was………….

OK. I messed with the lyrics. Saw a car with two street squirrels in it when I was at the grocery. Reminded me of the song. Betcha good money it belonged ta a Daddy. Them in it didn’t have the talent or sense ta build it.

Who did the song ‘n what was he in trainin’ for when he decided ta try rock as an occupation?

A l’il Google diggin’ should find it. Or ya might just know.

LR, I went to a good rodeo yesterday afternoon in Dallas at the AA Center. The Stampede is the last PRCA rodeo before the NFR. They held the first NFR in Dallas 50 years ago. Moose's cousin George Williams was a saddle bronc rider back then. He traveled with Casey Tibbs and was one of Freckles Brown's pallbearers. They had a group picture of them back then on the Jumbo Tron and she saw him in the picture. We're tryin' to get a copy of it.

scan it if you get a copy, I would sure like to see it....one of my former bosses was also runnin' with Freckles Brown.  Use to be the last rodeo before the NFR was the Cow Palace. The NFR is only reason we keep a cable hook up.

This don't make no sense...
A bunch of folks in the music biz were asked ta vote the top one hundred singers of the rock'n'roll era.  Though I was pleased ta see that Vegas Jumpsuit Boy didn't make number 1, the results are strange.  I'll give it up fer Ray Charles, but there's a lot in here that just aint right.

http://music.yahoo.com/read/news/61852568

I have no interest at all in seeing the complete list that is coming out on Friday.  They can keep it.

It’s a great country. Only in America can a poor, cute, l’il black boy grow up to be a rich, ugly, ole white woman.

Gonna start today with one o' my favorites  ;D
Listened to it on the way home.

God Must Be A Cowboy

A campfire, some coffee from a tin cup
In my hand
Sure warms the fingers when it’s cold
A’playin’ an old guitar, a friend I
Understand
Sure smooths the wrinkles in my soul

A’sleepin’ in the moonlight, a blanket for
My bed
Leaves a peaceful feelin’ in my mind
Wakin’ up in the morning with an
Eagle overhead
Makes me want to fly away before
My time

(Chorus)

And I think God must be a cowboy at heart
He made wide-open spaces from the start
He made grass and trees and mountains
And a horse to be a friend
And trails to lead old cowboys home again

Night life and big cities is alright
For awhile
Sure makes you feel good when you’re there
But the country’s so pretty it goes
On and on for miles
Takes away my troubles and my cares

(Repeat chorus)

And trails to lead old cowboys home again
