I've always liked the cowboy action guns and have wanted to give it a try for some time.  This year was a good year for us and I was able to talk the l'il lady into adding a few more guns.  I spent most of Saturday at the local gun shops picking up different revolvers.  I'm really leaning toward the Cimarron Model P 5 1/2" barrel in 45LC (I've ALWAYS wanted a 45 Colt Peacemaker), and while it's been a good year, it hasn't been THAT good :) .  I'm also looking at the Cimarron 1860 Henry with the case hardened steel frame and this is where I'm struggling.

I've read quite a bit here that keeping your pistols and rifle in the same caliber is a good idea and I REALLY want the 45 colt, but I don't think the Henry was originally offered in 45.  Is it that big a deal if I go with the Henry in 45 vs. 44-40 if I want to shoot competition?

Thanks,
Dannel

Dannel,  Welcome  to CAS and the Forum.  My first rifle was a Uberti made military brass in 45 colt.  I loved it when I bought it and love it to this day.  I would not worry about not getting the historically correct caliber in the Henry.  The original was the Henry 44 rim fire,  not the 44-40.  There are some pluses to having the same caliber in rifle and revolver so go ahead and by 45 colt if that is what you prefer.   You wont go wrong with the Model P from Cimarron either.  BOth are fine guns. Glad it was a good year for you!!   Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

Thanks Deadeye!

There is just something about a 45Colt (or reasonable facsimile)....

Forty Rod

COLT 45!  Just has a ring to it.

My sixshooters are .45, but my "pistol caliber"rifles...so far...are .44-40.

I can add a thumbs up to the above....

I can remember about 20 years ago... 45 LC brass was a bit hard to find, and OEM were few.
Today , it is plentiful thanks to CAS shooters.
It a favorite of mine & my Henry is chambered for it. You'll like the Henry , also look into the KING conversion of the Henry
from Taylor's.
The Cimarron Mod. P is great choice. I'd also suggest looking at the Cimarron OT's to go with the Henry for extra style.

Sounds like you found a good set of guns to start building with.... Now you just have to find a second pistol and a shotgun... ;D

I'm negotiating for the 2nd Model P, probably 4 3/4".   ;)

I've got a Stoeger Coach gun that I bought 15 years ago to hunt quail and dove in South Texas.

The guns store suggested that if I was going to shoot the .45LC that I should go to either an 1873 or 1892 instead of the Henry in .45.

Thoughts?

Deadeye Don

Personally,  I love my Henry in 45 colt.   My 1892 is in 44-40 and I love that too.  I have an 1873 and 1866 both in 45 colt and I love those too........ .  Ok I think you are starting to get my point.   Pick a rifle and pick a caliber...doesnt matter you will love it no matter what.   The Uberti made Henry is more that able to handle 45 colt so listen more to what YOU want than to the gun store people.   You are the one that has to shoot it.   Safe shooting.  Deadeye.

Henry is my vote... should I get one ;) and we have our own site here at Cas City... your cordially welcome to chime in on.

The 73 is also nice,  I like the style points of the Henry

I ordered the Henry in 45.  Hopefully will be here next week.

The Avocado Kid

The .45LC IMHO is closer to the orig. 44RM being its a straight case. If you are hung-up on the number 44 then get the 44/40 it comes down to you and you will hear pros and cons about both rounds. Dusty.

I bought the Henry big boy 45lc in brass with the octagon barrel and I love it.It s like fireing a 22.no kick at all with the 250gr flat nose ammo.I've been told that it would take to long to load and in comp.I might lose time loading it.but its still fun to shoot.
