Bring your Marlin.  You could very likely use it in the long range rifle match.

Dear Will
we are planning on some paper shooting we are putting togather a pistol shoot using 5 targets the size of silver dollars on a sheet of paper this will be shoot fairly close . Now as far as the rifle how about 5 shots at the same targets at 25 yards ? Also if you have any request , keep em coming
                                   Thanks

starts to warm up I'm tired of loading and ready to start shootin . We have made extra T_REX targets and I  plan on having 5 for pistol, and 10 for rifle . will load 7 in rifle and then reload the last 3
so all you Spencer shooters better give it a try .

Good News  Friends ,
Taylor's will provide the 76 for the National Shoot  this year . And we have got our ammo lined up again this year . We have got Jamison's to supply the brass and 10-x will load it . Also Taylor's has sent a 1873 rifle to checkout.  This rifle is half Octagon and half round 24 inch barrel . Does any body know if any other importer are offering them ? Our does Taylor's have the jump on them ?
Wonder who will import the standard round barrel rifle .

The Taylor's 1876 Rifle will be at the National Shoot . I picked the Rifle up yesterday at Whittaker's and I think everyone will like it . It sports a 28 inch barrel and nice wood for an Italian Rifle, and it's a 45-60 and Ten-X will send us ammo . Everyone will have a chance to shoot this rifle on Thursday .

Question for Long Distance for the Nationals....

I have this 1896 Krag rifle in 30-40.  I was a wondering, since it is period correct and does fall within the NCOWS time period, if it would be allowed to compete in the LD competition at the Nationals?  Obviously, using all lead ammo and such.

What say the Match Official types?

Major Matt, I don't know because in the past the Nationals Shoot Long range match was based on the Buffalo hunts of the 1870's & 80's and the time line was somewhat narrower than the general CAS main match. I believe it the period between 1870 to 1884 and the rifle you use must also reflect that time period. I'm not 100% sure on the dates but its somewhere near there. I know they don't go into the 1890's unless they have changed the rules of longrange buffalo match. Maybe, someone will post here that knows for sure. WBR

The cutoff date for the buff shoot when it was at Ackley, I believe was 1882. Since moving to Hooten I don't Know if that is still in force. Someone like French Jack needs to chime-in here.   jt

Major Matt-- since we are having a "Long Range" not Buffalo shoot, you are welcome to bring your Krag and try it out.  The only restrictions would be that you would be put in the smokeless catagory, and use lead bullets, without gas checks. Iron sights, no scopes.

If you want to go with those conditions, bring it on.

As French Jack has stated (sort of) there are "Buffalo Shoots" and there are "Long Range" shoots.

The 1885 Winchester High Wall is allowed in the "Long Range" shoots but not "Buffalo Shoots."  The 1886 Winchester/Browning would also fall into this catagory.

As the long range shoot "director" for this year's National Shoot, the only other thing I might add to French Jack's comments are that all rifles are to be loaded one round at a time (including lever guns) and that this year there will also be a big bore(rifle caliber) lever gun category in black and smokeless. The course of fire will be essentially the same as the single shot category, however, it will not range past 200-250 yds. so that those lever guns with barrel sights only have at least a sporting chance to hit something.  The 1896 Krag will shoot in the single shot category, so plan to shoot out to 400yds. or so.

Rowdy, there will be 25 shots for the record.  Either rifle.  How many for sighters or to practice is up to you. Probably 25 or so for sighters for each.

As to the cleaning, I understand that they MAY have volunteered, but I am not certain that I would trust more than a water pistol to either for cleaning.  ;) :P
