A Little Different Twist on a Cowboy Action Match....
« on: May 08, 2006, 08:22:33 PM »
Let me get some feedback here....

Who would be interested in a NCOWS Sanctioned Match that is a recreation of famous gunfights involving lawmen of the old West?  I am thinking of a 10 stage match.  The match would require the use of one pistol, one rifle and one SXS Coach Gun with double triggers.  The rifle and the shotgun would not be used in the same scenario save one....most likely....This would not be a match like the GAF Matches, no low crawling or anything Military orientated, but Law Dawg orientated....Law Dawg to the point where participants would be asked to assume the persona of a real Frontier Law Enforcer, Detective, Regulator or something along that line...so, you would have to do your research....

Let me know what you think....

I'd be interested.  Sounds like a lot of fun.  Course it'll probably be at a match that I'm unable to attend.

...not my line o' work ;D

I gotta agree with Frank, I'm not goin' to a shoot where I'm the target  :o

Course it'll probably be at a match that I'm unable to attend.

Have you considered that any shoot where you set out a wooden chair with a 'For Sale' sign qualifies as a business expense?

Quick Fire and all,
don't that sound somewhat we're planning for the BRR two-day? Take care.

Terry Lane aka Buffalo Bill, what the major is proposing is a little different. The two day shoot that the Blue River Regulators is doing in August is based on famous gunfights. However all NCOWS official class's will be offered. What Major Matt is proposing is a three gun shoot. One pistol, one rifle, and a side by side shotgun. All stages based on some type of law-enforcement official against the outlaws.

                                                                       Take care sir,

Don't be stealing my "Revenge of the Kansas Law Dawg" Match.....

Actually, since you would never walk onto a stage with more than two guns, a rifle and pistol, or a shotgun and pistol, technically, it is a "Two Gun" match.....Perfect for say the KVC's "2 Gun Regional."   :o ;D ;)

Yes, Griz and I have already talked about it.  There is one stage where I could reasonably see the use of a Rifle, Shotgun and Pistol, but I don't want to give away too much.  Look at it this way, those of you who have been to the GAF Muster know I take a lot of time and effort to make the events fun.  This is one event that I have had on my mind for a while.  I anticipate it being smaller than the Muster, and with less Sponsorship and such.  I would like to see CAS overall, yes, SASS & NCOWS, get away from Door Prizes...I don't come to an event for the free bullet lube anyway.....plus, it puts unbelievable pressure on the Match Director to really sell the match for sponsorships.....It makes building a match more like work than fun....

Problem is, what I make for profit on one chair, pays for bullets, powder, primers and maybe a meal.  Raise the price of the chair, and don't sell any.  Todays economy has got me by the short and curly's.  Thinking about stopping doing the shows and focus on internet sales and retailers (greenhouses and garden supply).  Times are tuff all over.  Don't know if I'll be attending too many shoots other than Logan this year.

Major Matt, "If you Hold it they will come".  Sounds like fun to me.  I like the idea of a story line.  Real story lines are right in the main stream of what we are trying to imatate with our research and such at NCOWs.  The trick is always picking a Week-end that is not crowded with other events.  With your comfuser skills, I am sure you can navigate those waters (Can a Marine navagate or do they need the Navy for that?).  Best of luck and If possible I would like to be there.
