IMR 8208 XBR powder in 45-70 Trapdoor
« on: February 16, 2013, 01:59:30 PM »
I just loaded a .45-70 shell of above said powder at 47.9 grains behind a 405 gr. LFP bullet......prior to this I had been shooting Remington 405 gr semi jacketed, Black Hills 405 gr or reloading with Trailboss at 12.5 grains.  The listed items all felt easy, smooth, very little recoil.  That 8208 XBR made my Trapdoor feel like shooting a .30-06 bolt action.   Lifted the muzzel right up and kicked me in the shoulder.  If I had a handful of those rounds I'd have probably bruised my shoulder.   I couldn't believe such power was listed under Trapdoor loading data.

Doug,

I have had excellent luck with 3031 powder, at the moment I cannot remember whose brand or the grain amount but it was taken from the manufactures recomendations for trapdoors.

I only shoot to support my reloading habit.
