I have an older Puma 92 carbine in .45LC. It has been an excellent and accurate gun for me and has been used as a truck gun, carried on my horse and in reenactments. But my eyes are getting older and the rear sight is just a square notch affair. Were the originals buckhorn style or what? Any help would be appreciated as I want to stay authentic and keep hitting what I am at.

I have seen both Buck-horn style, and the proprietary Winchester ladder style rear sight.  I found the cheesy Rossi square notch to be VERY accurate, even if it is ugly. Marbles used to make one of their semi and full Buck-horn sights specifically for the Rossi.  Tha was back in about 1995 to 1998 or so, though.

I have an original Winchester Model 92 Carbine in .44 WCF in Very Good condition.

It has its original sights on it (the small blade Front Sight is sweated onto the barrel on its square pedestal).

The Rear Sight is what is often termed as "Winchester's Carbine Sight" which is ~7/8" wide swing-up Ladder Style sight ~2: tall. that in both the raised or lowered position has a simple small square notch that's ~3/32" wide and deep.

I'm afraid it's NOT very good for eyes suffering from age.

I also have a '92 Rossi "Texas Rifle" that's the same length as the Carbine, but has an octagonal barrel and rifle forend and cap.

The stock sights on the Rossi are much better for old eyes than those on the Winchester Carbine.

See Nate Kiowa Jones' website for some replacement Marble's sights for the Rossis that might be just what you need.
