Is finding Lexington KY finding 45 LC ammo impossible?
« on: April 06, 2011, 10:11:39 AM »
I was going to order a 1000 rounds from Georgia Arms today and they are completely out of stock on it now. I've check all the local gun shops and not a single box of Cowboy Action loads so I was forced to buy some Blazer HP to sight in my rifle with.

Now I can find it in 500 rounds at a time on the web but they won't be here in time for the 16th with the JCR. Now I don't have the means, know how or wish to make my own but I am open to buying some from those that do.

Spostsmans Guide had it a pretty fair price in their catalog. You might check them online. Everthing I have ordered from the shipped pretty fast.

joec, You really need to go ahead and get into reloading. At the price of ammo, you will soon have your money back for a press and dies, brass, primer, bullets, and powder. Reloading is fun, I turn the cd player on, listen to cowboy music and load them up. Tj

Thanks guys I will check them all out though I did check Sportman's and Even's in Lexington along with every other one listed in the phone book. The only place I found any was a place called Semper Fi which is new. They had 4 - 50 round boxes of Remington but wanted $48 a box which I passed on. I need enough for the 16th then I will have the 1000 rounds from Georgia Arms. I buy all my ammo for the most part in 1000 round lots when I buy. Georgia works out to 50 cents a round when bought a 1000 at a time with free shipping. They are just out of it right now but expect to have it by the middle of the month but won't be here for the meet.

TJ as for making my own that isn't going to happen. It isn't the money so much as I don't have the space to do it where I live, small apartment. I figured I could get by with perhaps a 150 rounds max on the 16th and was hoping someone in the group that makes them might.

Oh and I did test the Rossi 92 today with a 100 rounds of Blazer Aluminum JHP. Not a problem at all other than 25 yards is the longest distance I could shoot due to using an indoor range. I set the sights to shoot about an 1" to 2" high using an 8 1/2" by 11" printed target. All 100 rounds are with in the target and I shot in groups of about 3" so pretty happy with the results.

UPDATE: I found 8 boxes of Winchester just now as I got a call from a buddy that new a pawn shop with it locally. I will pick up all 8 boxes tonight after work.

I never thought I would ever start reloading either. But, poof,  here I am now with my own Blue 550B.  I enjoy reloading almost as much as I do shooting.  I have a favorite Johnny Cash/ Willie Nelson CD that I listen to.  I understand the space issues mentioned by Joec, but actually one doesnt need alot of space to reload if done right.

If it doesn't work out for you, I will bring some extra 45LC ammo with me.  You'll be able to shoot.   ;D

I had a portable reloading stand that I got from Midway. I mounted a turret press on one end and a single stage press on the other.

Thanks for the suggestions on reloading guys. I started looking into it a bit more yesterday so perhaps I might in my future. At any rate I have the 16th covered with enough that should cover a single meet. My ammo from Georgia Arms should be here by the end of this month which will hold me awhile. I do have about 500 rounds of regular jacked ammo for the 45 LC which I can practice with.

Oh and if anyone is interested and will be at the meet on the 16th let me know. I have a case of 12 gauge 2.75" #8 Game load by Remington. I have 8 boxes of 25 rounds each and 1 that is missing perhaps a couple. I also have 3 boxes of  22-250 Remington ammo and perhaps a box loose I'm also will to trade for some 45 LC. I don't own a 12 gauge other than a Mossberg 500 that I keep loaded with heavier loads.

joec,

If you find that you can't reload, there are companies that will reload for you.  Save your brass and you ship it to them.   They load it and ship it back.  That is WAY more economic than buying more and more factory ammo.

If you need some names, send me a PM and I'll give you more info.

You really don't need a really big area to reload. You can secure a press to a square of wood and then clamp it to the edge of your kitchen table when you need to load, a scale and a powder throw or scoop of some kind and you can turnout reloads. everything including the press will fit in a cowboy hat box. And yep, my outfit is a lot more than that but I have room. I can't imagine the costs of not having a reloading setup.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

There is a guy who comes to the big gun shows here in Louisville who has pretty good prices on 45LC reloads with new brass. I think it was $60 per 100. I did get few with high primers though so you have to check them. The only problem is the next show is the same weekend as the NCOWS Nationals.
