When I got my 1860 conversion ( Uberti) I just purchased 38 special target loads rated at 800 fps at the muzzle. This was the only 38 special ammo they had and the gun information didn't specify. These were also jacketed bullets. The gunsmith at Cimarron said the load was ok but the jacketed bullets were not a good idea. Having a hard time finding the proper ammo and thought about reloading the rounds I already have with soft cast bullets but not sure of the size. I'm new to centerfire guns, was mainly into balck powder and 22 rimfire. Any help would be greatly apreciated. Love the gun by the way.

Any standard velocity lead bullet .38 special load should be fine. As for reloading, probably no better place to start then .38spl. Go out and get a couple of reloading manuals and read them, I recommend Lyman's for one, it has a lot of "how to" in it.
