I have one.  I had to polish the chambers to get the empties to fall out.  I also had to put a spring under the forestock release as the forestock would come off in my hand from the recoil after about the third or fourth shell.  Other than that, it works great.

I'm looking at one of these in 12ga myself, never used a shotgun with external hammers before. How does it work? Do you have to cock the hammers manually or is it a double-action type draw?

It's single action and you are allowed to have the hammers back when staged for the first two shells.

I call it my Doc Holliday gun.

Hay Lou,

I have three of them fellers, back from when rumor had it that there wouldn't be any more.  Well worth the price of around $160-190 on sale at Dunham's.  Only problem I had was a chipped firing pin that still works, but haven't been able to find a replacement.  Not a beautiful piece of machining but works every time; I shoot only Black Powder and don't clean it as well or as often I should, it doesn't seem to care. As said above, polishing the chambers helps for paper hull extraction, but brass falls right out.

I have a couple other doubles without hammers that I never use any more.

I have one...love it!  However, had to replace the left firing pin after one shoot, and replace the ejector after the very next shoot.  Otherwise a nice, functional gun.  Easy to point and shoot, not too tough on the shoulder.  Parts are a bit difficult to get...had to wait 3+ months for the ejector.

I've owned one, but traded it for a TTN 1878 double which I believe is far superior firearm... ;D

What loads do you use in your shotguns?  Do you load your own or do you buy?  If you buy what brand and shot? ???

I'll second the TTn statement.... I've had one over a year, Worked great right out of the box....
course Walt Johnson installed the Lighter springs and sent the OEM springs along too.
Shucks plastic hulls just fine....

what loads ?

Mostly Reloaded AA lights with Cleanshot & 7 1/2 shot...this is my favorite
also have some Walmart bargain sale factory AA Super Handicap
and some real cheap new Federal Field & Target I picked up & a box or two of Estate ( all 7 1/2 shot)
when planets align...do the deal !

Thank for your Reply Majors,

I haven't shot mine as of yet.  I picked up some Remington gun Club Target Loads 71/2 shot.  Only thing is that they have aluminum instead of brass.  My next will be double A's.

That what the Estate have..
Some guy know to my FFL stopped by while I happen to be in store had a case with him.
He sold me a few boxes for $5.
I just used it to practice the handle of my muley with.
I figured at less than $0.10 a shot who cares ? Just used them the one time, to save my better XX Cleanshot.

Goatlips, replacement parts are now being sold by a few guys on gunbroker (search "coach gun").  I've been wanting to get one of these since December, and was talked out of it by a friend. Now, I'm regretting passing it up when I had the spending money.
