New Ammo Mystery
« on: April 11, 2010, 09:30:39 AM »
Wife and I went to Equine Affaire . Found some new ammo. It is priced cheaper than any other ammo that we shoot. I dont have to reload it.
I took some of it out back to the steel plate range. I think something is wrong with the ammo or the plates . I load the 45s. Aim and pull trigger. Gun goes Bang smoke flies out the end but no Ding from the steel plate. Its going to have to take some work at the range to score hits, as these hit very light. The target moves but doesnt ring. I dont understand whats wrong. Might have to switch to a more  reactive target something that explodes when hit. cause Im certainn that the score keepers wont hear a target ring with ear plugs in.  ???  ;D

Reminds me of a funny story.
I was on a Posse where one fella liked to be a counter. Trouble was all he did was listen for dings while his attention was elsewhere. On one shooter he reported no misses, but what he did not see was the targets were shot out of order.

Keep reminding all us spotters to use both eyes and ears, as often being able to see that bullet make it's mark on the target somewhere is just as important as hearing a ding.  ;D

I swear some steel absorbs sound, or that some loads are subsonic. ???

Devil, maybe you could paint the lead bullet with Day-Glo Yellow. Or shout "Ding" after every shot. 8)

Is it possible that you bought some of the blanks used in mounted shooting?

I keep telling shooters at our monthly matches, when I’m RO’ing.  “Don’t mumble Cr@p, D@mn, or P@@p, just YELL CLANG” the counters may think you hit it!!!
