Shoulder holster for my Schofield
« on: October 19, 2009, 10:17:19 AM »
A few of you are familiar with my leather work.  I'm a lefty and looking for a shoulder holster pattern for my Uberti Schofield. I understand Irish Dave has made a few for his Russian and Laramie.  Can you help me Dave?
Thanks

If all else fails perhaps we can merge some ideas into a single plan.  Let us know what you are looking for in your pattern, specifically what style of shoulder holster and what barrel length Schofield?  I know there are a couple of patterns out there for western style shoulder holsters and it should be an easy job to just swap out the holster portion.

My Schofield has a 3.5 barrel.  I would like it to hang straight up and down.  Lou Alessi made a beautiful pivoting holster that I have made a couple of but I can't seem to get it to lie flat under my armpit.  With an automatic it is easy I just mold the outer half to the gun and make the inner half flat.  I guess I could do the same thing wiith my Schofield.  Any suggestions are very much welcom.
Thanks Bob

Triggersmith:

The key to comfort in a shoulder rig (IMHO) is that it should NOT hang under the armpit. It should hang in the hollow created by the arm and the chest right in front of the armpit.

This makes it not only more comfortable, but more concealable when worn under a jacket or coat. Don't know about others' preferences, but I certainly don't want 2-3 pounds of irregular shaped steel under my arm......

Let me know what you're looking for and I'll check to see if I might have a pattern that would help you.I'm sure there are still pix of my shoulder rigs somewhere here in this forum somewhere.

Thanks Dave,
I mis-spoke myself. My 1911 hangs in front of the arm pit and just behing my protruding bay window. Thats' where I want the Schofield to hang. An earlier hanger like in the Packing Iron book. I made one of the Doc Holliday rigs from the Tombstone book, but man was that murder to setup. I don't need anything fancy, but I work part time in a gun store and they know my leather work. thanks again Dave for any help.
