MOVE IF NECESSARY

Thanks

I have a Lee Lube Sizer .358 ( use this Lee Alox method for my smokeless rounds ) which fits my single stage press. The bullets from my mold need to be sized to .358 to fit properly .

Some have said to coat the bullets , dry overnight then run through the sizer then re coat with the Alox and let dry again prior to use

. I recently read in a magazine article how this specific reloader was coating his bullets with the LEE Alox , and running them right through the sizer ....still wet ..so to speak . Then letting them dry ..

1.   Would this harm the sizer?
2.   Also, If doable would you still have to re coat with Alox prior to letting the now sized bullets dry for use??

thanks
Dutchie

I use them for a couple guns I shoot gas checks in, I lube, let dry and size, relube and when dry I dust them with powdered mica.  To me no matter what else, it would be a mess to run them through wet.  I have run bullets up around 1500 this was.  For faster though I pan lube with one of the crayon lubes and if I size I just run them though with out lube.  Never had a problem, but mostly I'm just crimping a gascheck on.

Cast ‘em. Toss ‘em in a sandwich bag ‘n squirt some liquid alox in. Roll ‘em around then shove ‘em thru the sizor. Do need ta let ‘em dry or they’re awful messy. No need for a second coatin’. Werks fine for smokeless. Has for me anyway. Won’t hurt the die either way.

Del’s mica suggestion is a good idea. Makes handlin’ cleaner.

I stole the idea from Hornaday and their swaged bullets. ;)  You're right, most likely don't need the second lube, but it's so easy and cheap.

Ha , MY two favorite bandits...thanks for the quick reply . ;D

I was thinking the wet way would be messy , just trying to cut down on time with the second dry and wait time . Sorry I'm so lazy  ::) ::)

Think I'll keep doing as ya say . Wet Dry Size

Skip the second lube . there isn't a lot of lead moving around anyway..

Should shut this thread down before DD sees I'm shooting smokeless with the Snake  Bite Bullets ::)

Tks

Heck as long as you bought the mould and didn't steal it, no foul there. ;)  "sides that, don't kid yerself, DD ain't dumb, there are times and places Nitro powder is just the thing to use, I burn a lot of it myself and so does Arcey.  My 243 and Arcey's 9mm would do worth a poop with black. ;)

I had to think about it, since it has been a while since I used Alox. I would take the bullets and run them through the sizer and then in a bowl I would add a bit of liquid Alox and shake the bullets until coated and spread out of wax paper to dry. I was shooting subs powder and it worked really well. I remember when I did my first batch I coated the bullets with way too much and it took forever for them to dry. A little alox goes a long way.
Then I got into big lube boolits and I would pan lube them and then run them through the Lee sizer. That sized them and helped pack the lube into the grooves. I have one model boolet I use a lot of and I have had trouble pan lubing. For those I use a regular luber/sizer. I like the Lee way better, but I cannot lube and size at the same time with them. Plus I use a size (.455) that Lee wouldn't have.

Thanks HD , I have had no problems using the Alox in the sizer and doing a second lube . I'm goin to try to run a few w/o the second lube just to see.
I use a pan lube on the SB's for the BP.

Del ...wonder what my Sig would do with some black?? I'll wait till someone tries first.  :o

Heh, heh, heh…….

Give it a try. Ya never know.

Had an ole boy whut come ta the last Charity shoot. .45 ACPs loaded with Black Powder (always capitalize Black Powder) ta shoot out a 1911 pattern pistol. He was convinced it would work.  Didn’t make it thru the first magazine.

Thinkin’ the Glocks would get POed if I stuffed sumthin’ in ‘em but jacketed boolets ‘n smokeless powder. Doan wanna piss my Glocks off. Doan think my l’il ole ass-halt riffle in .223 would like it either.

All misspelled werds intentional.

Years ago there was a story in some gun rag about some instrutor at some Police (always capitalize Police) range who loaded and did a mag of Black Powder in a Mac 10, thing went the whole way.

Several years ago we had one of our cowboy shooters, who also shot IPSC, shoot an entire IPSC match with BP .45 ACP loads in a 1911.  I’m not sure if he did any cleaning or anything between stages, as I only caught the last stage.  I was told he freaked out all his IPSC friends when he fired his first string.
