Goin' public with 'nother dumb question

Sitting around idly practicing trigger pull with my Rugers got me thinking.  I'm gonna get some C&B shooters:  how in the world do you "dry-fire" C&B revolvers without trashing the nipples and hammer face?

I use synthetic erasers meant for mechanical pencils glued in the primer pockets of fired cases for snap-caps on my old battle rifles, and thought that I might slip some kind of padding material onto each nipple.

What you folks use to practice your pull-point-shoot technique?

Not a dumb question at all.  Answer depends on the gun.  The Ruger Old Armys I shoot will not dammage their nipples cuz the hammer stops just short of 'em, so I'm told.  I've never dry fired them.  When practicing dry fire I do it a lot like Seth.  I use my Kirst Konverter cylinders with snap caps.

I'm thinkn' ya cud make a cushion that fit either over the hammer or into the appature out of some copper and it should wear well and prevent the hammers from striking the nipples on guns where this is a question.

Also, what would be wrong with snapping some caps on empty chambers and leavin' 'em on the nipples?  They would last for a couple of hammer drops each.

Heres something that I use, and I find that it works real well.

Go down to your local hardware store, clean nipples in hand, and look for the plastic tubing.
I got some silicon tubing that fits snugly over the nipple and will push down enough to cover the whole length. I then cut it off about 1/8 inch above the top of the nipple and use a cigarette lighter to heat it just enough to get it tacky, then just push it down so that it completely envelopes the nipple.
There you have a nice C&B 'snap cap'.
These last about a month until i need to replace them. I practice at least once a day, with the hammer going down on each nipple about 2 dozen times during the practice.
If you want it to last longer, you could cut the tube a little longer so that there is more plastic/silicon between the nipple and hammer when you melt it and push down.

I'll second the ROA dry fire.  Done it lots of times with mine, and no problems whatsoever.  If'n you don't have an ROA, the tubing idea above definitely passes the sanity test, which means it's approved for expenditure of general funds, and use until proven failure.  Sounds low cost too, which is always good when ya spend a lot on guns, ammo, and gas, like most shooters.

You already shot with me, you should know that practice doesnt make me perfect by any means.... grin.
Great shooting with you though, I learnt a lot in a shot space of time. Next time, I need to spend more time watching your loading, cleaning, etc, and less time trying to 'spot'.
