Fired my Spencer Rifle today
« on: June 20, 2006, 07:48:33 PM »
I have had the rifle for the past couple of months, however with moving I have not had time to load and shoot it. Today I loaded up 20 rounds with a Rapine 350 gr bullet that has worked well for me in both my Smith and Maynard. Loaded 35 Grs of Goex 3f and shot the twenty rounds with out cleaning off the bench at 50 yards. Very easy to maintain at 4" group for the 20 rounds. Not really a good group, however this is out of the box with bullet and load that may not be the best.and no cleaning with BP.

I like the feel of shooting the rifle, very mild and the rilfle holds very well. The sight are about the cheapest piece of crap on any rifle I have ever had, however at the lowest setting they are absolutly dead on at 50 yds, at least with the above load. The trigger pull is very heavy, at least  15/20 lbs, will do the modifications as suggest by others.

The trigger and the sights are the only two problems I see with the rifle, other than those problems it is a very well made piece of equipment and worth the money. I also have the carbine, however I don't think I will ever bother to shoot it, the rifle handles so well and the carbine feels like most short barreled weapons, very wippy. i have no doubt that the rilfe will be a very accurate rifle once I have a chance to see what it really likes. Doubt that it will ever shoot as well as my Henry, however I very glad I bought it.
