If they are anything like the 76's, pray you don't find one.  8)

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

Should you suspect there is a Chaparral lurking near you,  tiptoe past VERY quietly, hope it doesn't smell your aftershave and don't, whatever you do, sneeze.  DO NOT relax until your at least a quarter mile distant.  Oh heck, almost forgot, CHAIN your wallet to your trousers.  Also helps if you wear an ugly hat and real dark sunglasses.  Be vewwy vewwy quiet ........ (stolen famous cartoon line)

I don't actually remember if Chaparral made a 44-40.  I (unfortunately) worked on a lot of them but they were very very forgettable.

MR. Coffinmaker ,,since I don't recall having ever met you ,, just how did you know I wear a ugly hat and dark sunglasses ,, you must have " stp " or seen my picture on the wall at the post office .( Just to funny not to respond to ,, I do enjoy your humor ).

I have looked in a honest effort to find one ,,noticed they were never on a forum ( 73's )  here ,, 45's ,, 357's ????
  I did read a review on a 38/40 ( chaparral ) the write-up was impressed w/ their model .

Why, thank you Slamfire.  I do like to provide a certain amount of levity when driving a stake into the heart of a product.

In all fairness, the first 4 or 5 Chaparral imported were really nice.  Those were the ones provided to the scribblers for favorable magazine articles.  Everything after that was JUNQUE.  Twas sad.

Slamfire

Sir; The review read was from " GUN BLAST " as I recall ,,ditto on your comments.

Since I work for myself ,, ( low pay scale ) I really enjoy the challenge ( at only 73 yrs.  I still want to learn ) . It's not about " MONEY " but " self " ,, i'm sure you understand.    Thanks for your many reply's .

Major 2

actually....

I recall a table within the Charter Arms booth at the 2007 Shot Show.
A simple 2' X 8' draped table and upon it lay the first two Chaparral 1873's I laid eyes on.  They were 44/40's as I recall.

That that juncture (January 07 )  Charter Arms was to be the importer ( that lasted about 4 months ) and Charter Arms dropped them...

But I get ahaed of myself ...this was "SHOT" the industry's big brew HaHa SHOW"....this as I pointed out in my review then,  was where the Manufacturer's put their BEST foot forward.... ???

Well, most manufacturer's did anyway.... At 10 feet the first two Chaparral 1873's I laid eyes on ...looked OK ...@ 10 feet I said...

What I got to hold was something else again.... Some kinda Mystery wood with painted grain pattern and wood to metal fit was the thickness of a dime gapped in some places .... I'd seen better fit & finish on toy crap cap guns.
Shortly there after, Charter Arms offered a walnut upgrade kit , and then shortly after that Charter Arms drop all mention of any association with Chaparral....

I took some heat on this very BB by the next FFL that set to handle them ( archives may show that drumming  :-\ )
He aparently later saw the light as the guns myriad of issues shown forth ... he too,  bowed out

It is really too bad.... I really wanted to see Chaparral succeed , now if they had set out to make Tomato sticks they would have !
when planets align...do the deal !

Hey OL ! it did have a small problem w/ the mag. tube , took it apart pushed it in as far as it would go,, re pined and " ADD " a piece to the end ( face ) of the plug , now the plug twist in snug . And yes it is smooth I can put 10 40/60's in the tube flip them out fast as you want ,, no hick -up .  The Chaparral caught my eye better than the other brands ( and original WIN. parts fit w/ very little fitting )My barrel is so accurate ,,, " It's Spooky , Someday someone will have another Chappie ( dis-cuss-ted with ) cheap , cheap , I 'll buy it , and save it's life . I enjoy fixing them !!!      Thank's for asking.

I have a Chaparral '66 long rifle in .357 and have had no problems with it.  Mine came right from the factory intact.
