I'm looking at getting an early uberti 66 38 spec. but hear parts are no longer available, and to stay away from them. Other than springs what parts normally break that can't be found? This gun is the early "hollow" hammer style.

The links, carrier arm, carrier, trigger, sear, and other parts are all different.  If you intend to use it for competition you would be better advised to buy a later model.  If you just want to buy it to plink with it should last a long time.

I was thinking it would be a good "camp"  and turkey rifle, no competition, but it would get shot a lot.

Pettifogger said it all...

For actual hands on, I had a 1979 SRC in 38 , no Comp, but I did shoot it some.... no issues, sold it in 88 still functioning and looking fine.
I had traded for it in "81" , so I was in it at about $300 sold it for $375....

If you are get in at those prices go for it, if you are looking at $ 600 or more, save your $$ and piece of mind, get a later Date Code.
when planets align...do the deal !
