This was an accident, a stupid accident had might meet the definition of negligence.
It does not, however, have anything to do with the Newtown murders nor with intentional gun crimes.
The Media is really stretching on this story to somehow tie these together.
I'd bet you that more people were injured in bathroom accidents than were accidentally injured by guns on this same day.

1, Always assume the gun is loaded.

2. Never point a gun at something you do not want to kill.

Rule # 1. Always check the arm to see if it is loaded.
This guy never bothered with Rule # 1 before he left the house!

Years ago I had a table at a Gun Show, someone slipped 2 rounds of buckshot into a shotgun on my table. Luckily another guy caught it. Never found out who did it.

ADs are never "accidents".   I just read the article and it gives a VERY slight nod to fairess before going on a rant about Newtown.  Of course this incident has entirely nothing to do with that unfornunate affair.

The officer, who was checking guns taken into the show, received powder burns. Two other people were hit by a few birdshot. The shotgun fired through the end of the soft gun case. Lots of rumors going around. Best bet is the owner was pulling it out of the case and the officer was helping.

The online news story I read about it had a picture of an AK-47 in the title.  Oh sure, that makes perfect sense.
