It would be a custom option, but it has been done.  For those wanting a 45, and for those shooting WB, it would be possible to shoot the same ammo in rifle and 1911, and SAA.  It would seem a good length for shorter barreled handy carbines, short stroke levers.  It would still have serious power, would be cheap on surplus type ammo.  It was invented 30 years earlier than the 357 mag that is all the rage in CAS.  Would seem to have everything for a 45 shooter, other than the fact that nobody chambers a factory lever.

So what do you think?  Any reason not to do it?

I like the idea. So who is going to build it?  I'd llike  a 16" m92 trapper in .45acp.

The reason the original lever actions weren't chambered for .45 Colt was the lack of enough rim to allow extraction.
I just have to see a lever action successfully work with .45 ACP before I'd jump in and order one.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

I have a vague recollection of reading that Winchester made some .45acp rifles some years back, I think the '94? for export to South America.

A gentleman who shoots Wild Bunch around North Texas has converted a Marlin 94 to 45acp. It runs great.

That is good to know.  I came across a thread on the Marlinlover site.  Someone had a conversion done by David Clay, though that might be the high end of the scale.

Where are you finding cheap, surplus type .45ACP ammo?

The American military stopped their production of it in the '80's, once the M9 was selected, and that stuff has been pretty much all shot up since then.

None was released for public sale.

Surplus is probably the wrong word, but volume cheap compared to 45 LC are available.  And even setting up a loader for only one cartridge would be cheaper.  I used to reload everything, but I have too many interests to make space for one now.  SO I am looking for deals, while keeping within 45.

And to state the obvious Ruger also has a Vaquero in 45 acp, so there are several companion pistols.  Don't know if we could get it up here is Canada since it is a dealer special, but it exists.
