EMF Dakota Jager

I'm curious about this SAA. Is it just as good as anything else out there?
A work in progress.

RTR
Here are a couple of shots of my Jager Dakotas. The first one originated as a kit gun (comes partly assembled, and in the white)
I got it in 1980 and put it together and finished it as an antique. The finish on it is almost identical the the gun that Doc Holliday had and pixed in Peacemakers by RL Wilson. Paid $120.

The other one is a finished gun also from 1980. I got the sanbar stags for $15 and thought they were expensive.

They both still shoot goon. Only problems is the action on the blued gun is VERY heavy. They also are hard to get parts for.

I would buy one if the price was right.

I'm starting to revisit the older Italian SAA clones myself - the Jagers, the ASM's.

Over the years I commonly heard these guns were poor quality.  I have come to think thats overstated.  Those guns capture the look of the SAA very well and are steel construction (a lot have brass grip frames) - they are very robust.  They generally take SAA interal parts, so if you encounter problems you should be able to find some sort of fix.

One of the things I like about them is they often have very vibrant case colors, which I suspect is real.

It is a value proposition though - for $350, $375 a fellow should be able to find a recent model Uberti in good shape.  I wouldn't be comfortable paying that much for a 15 - 30 year old Jager or ASM.  And in many cases, thats what they seem to be priced at.

I had one once and had all kinds of problems with it, including breakage of internal parts.

I have owned a dozen or so......always bought from fellers that didn't like them.
No issue fitting whatever parts needed replacing. Throw those dumb safety cylinder pins away!

My biggest complaint was the poorly shaped grip frame (which is brass). The latest ones with blued frames are basically the same as the first ASM guns. The hanner is odd shaped on the end but easily fixed.

I have a real nice "shotshow" engraved but never fired Sheriff model in 45 Colt and VIBRANT is an understatement when you look at it's case hardening!

I have a .44-40, 5.5" barrel, steel backstrap Jager I bought new about 25 years ago.  EMF used to advertise them in Shtgun News for about $125 I think.  Long ago I fitted an original Colt base pin to it.  A few years ago I put in a lighter mainspring.  It looks like a well worn original and works great and shoots right to point of aim at 20 yards.

     Howdy All

Mine is an Intercontinental Dakota 45 long colt, I was told it too is a Jaeger, I bought it in either 1966 0r 1967, long time ago, ??? :-\, anyway its had thousands of rounds through it, and has been a work horse of a six gun, I bought it back then, because my second generation Cots were shooting loose after six rounds fired, we didn't have Loc-Tight back then, and the back straps would get loose too easy, one of the things that sold me on this Dakota was that they were proof tested nine time, that's plugging the barrel, and firing nine round into it, the barrel didn't come apart, they also had real Case Hardening, the grips on this gun I made myself, to fit my hand just right, I did a lot of Quick Draw comp. back then, and would go through a brick of 45 long colt  in one day of practice, that's 500 rounds I would do a quick cleanig every 250 rounds, I never had anything break in this gun, and after 40+ years it's still a great gun.

That is one fine lookin gun. Only thing that mars it for me is the brass...I paid an extra $65 to get an all steel tg/bs (and that was a lot of cash then)

My Dakota (Californian Kit Gun) lived with a brass tg/bs up until about 2-3 years ago. I got the gun from EMF as a kit in 1980 for $120. I finished it and wanted to have it look antiqued. So I did the finish my self.  EMF found some old ASM parts during an inventory and I got a set of the black nickel tg/bs and grips from them. They didn't think they would fit, but they did but had to get a longer mainspring.

I then noticed in the Peacemakers book that other than the barrel length that my Dakota looked EXACTLY like the Doc Holiday gun. (right down to the drag mark on the cylinder and the holster wear..) hope ya like the pix.
BTW: These guns are now at least 30 years old, and still shoot fine. Not bad for a so called cheap import..

Curley you're so right, I never did like brass for straps and trigger guards, but in the late sixty's steel wasn't offered, it wasn't until 2005 that I heard you could get the steel straps and guard for the Jaeger Dakota, and by then they were out of stock, but I still like this beast, it feels right at home in my hand, if you hear of any one selling the steel straps and guards for this gun please let me know. ???

Bought one 20+ years ago that was engraved and just purty.  Shot it quite a bit and still love it.  Still looks good and works well.  Not as good as my USFA or Colts of course but for budget; a great gun

None too pretty, but hard to beat for $75.

Nice. That looks like it may have started it's life as one of the "Kit Gunz". They had a much lighter grip. The wood never did finish up very dark. Mine no matter what I did short of paintin it came out almost blonde colour. I got some Boone Traders one piece polyivory grips for it. When I got the ASM tg/bs/grips for it, I sold them cuz I knew I waz never gonna put brass back on it.

So, what do they do? they come out with the Aclcminista! has a brass t/g (at least not as bad as all brass..) I just hated it.

but yer gun looks great, and dang nice price, how is the action

Pretty good, all things considered.  It's not as smooth as some of the other stuff I've shot but it's nothing to sneeze at.

Here's mine - .44-40, 5.5" barrel.  I bought it and the El Paso Saddlery holster new around 1984.  Shoots right to point of aim with 3F Goex and Mav Dutchman bullet.  A good honest old sixgun.

I had one of the old brass grip frame EMFs in .357, my first SAA.  I had trouble with the cylinder locking up and overshooting the locks.  never was able to fix it.  But the grip frame was an odd shape.
