Uberti/Stoeger Schofield
« on: February 09, 2008, 11:41:15 PM »
Has anyone ever heard of this varient?

 http://www.gunsamerica.com/976974885/Guns/Pistols/Uberti-Pistols/Ctg/Uberti_Stoeger_Schofield_3_1_2_Stainless_with_Pearlescent_Grips_Top_Break_design_44_40.htm

I'm looking for one in .45LC as a possible mounted shooting weapon.  They are not listed on the Uberti site.

Any input appreciated!  :)

Yes, and they are listed on the Uberti sight. The one you speak of is the hide out model and it is nickel not stainless. On the ones I have seen, the side plate and grip fit was bad. The grips look to be a 1/16 to short at the top. Other then that, they looked good. Dealers in my area want $1000 + which I won't pay. Recent price increase but I do not think Uberti's web sight reflect them yet.

Thank you, Sir, for the reaponse!   8)

I did see the nickel varient but did not see a stainless; that's what confused me (but, then, I'm sometimes easily confused  ;) ).

So the dealer is in error and it's not stainless?  That does not leave me with a lot of confidence in the dealer.

I owned a couple of Uberti Schofields in .44/40 before I swapped them for my S&W Performance Center 2000s.  I liked them.  I did have one issue.  On occasion the star ejector would not cleanly eject all six rounds.  I was advised at that time that this was an issue unique to the .44/40 case and did not with the .45LC version.

I've not yet made a final decision.  The mounted shooting game has some different "imperatives" from the ground game.  Since I'll likely stick with mounted for a while (at least until I'm too old to make that first, BIG step) I'm going to "customize" my equipment in that direction.

Thanks, again, for the input!  :)

yep, it looked good to me at first glance when it was priced at 875.00, I did not like the bad fitting grips but I figured I would replace them anyways. I mind wrestled with it for two months and decided to get it but when I went back and it was raised to 975.00 and I seen the sideplate's sloppy fit, I knew I did not want it. For me it gets down to what else a thousand bucks would buy ::)

I have 3 of the uberti hide outs in 45 colt.   I like them a lot.  The extractor can some times slip over the rim on a 45 Colt also.  It doesn't happen often.
