Spartan 220 Shotgun

Howdy all !  Just got a copy of the Cowboy Chronicle and it shows a "Spartan 220" shotgun marketed by Remington.  Went to the website a few minutes ago (our internet here has been down for a couple of weeks) and it appears to have a reasonable MSRP of $447.  Probably could wheel 'n' deal to $400 or less out the door. 

If it's worth buying at all.

Has anyone seen or shot one of these yet?  Is it a boxlock or Greener action, or   The website shows "functional hammers" available, so I'm guessing there are some models with "fake" hammers too?

Appreciate any insights y'all might provide.

The way I understand it they are EAA shotguns (Baikil - Russian) now being imported by Remington.  I have looked at them at a local shop and the seem to be as good as the EAA.  I have an external hammer EAA and it has served me well for 2 years shooting BP.

Yes, they are the Baikals previously imported by EAA. EAA must have lost the account. Haven't seen one in person, but I'd imagine that they'd be very similar to the EAA's, maybe with a few cosmetic changes...........Buck

This is interesting. I had a Baikal coach gun with cyl bore on both barrels. The gun was nice-looking, but worthless for much without chokes. I see they offer them now with screw-in chokes. That could be a good gun. The finish on my Baikal was good so hopefuly they've kept that. I'd like to see a slightly longer barrel, though. It would be nice to have a double-trigger one with internal hammers. Hmmmmmm.........

I just purchased the 220F  (version with external functioning hammers).  I cannot seem to assemble it. 
I have put shotguns together before so I am frustrated by this.

I figured it out.  The manual didn't say (and the pictures didn't show) that the extractor needed to be in the extended postion.  Once I did this, the two pieces went together quickly.  Now I am annoyed by the automatic safety.  How easily can this be defeated?

Sod Buster,  I wished I had seen this before the shoot yesterday....It should be very simular to the Stoeger's and it take the stoke off and work the saftey switch and follow it.

stiff,the hammers are hell to pull back. the auto safety, well I don't know if this is right or not.......... but I opened the gun up
and I found A small arm that rides in A track, and then hooks up to the latch that locks your gun shut.just in front of the triggers,it pops in.push it out of the track (in the rear) then put the tip of A screwdriver on the left side of the triggers, and pop it out. save it in case you want to sell the gun. if you don't under stand what i'm saying, e mail me for phone number and i'll walk you through it. O ya the saftey still works manually,with no problem

I just bought A 220 myself real nice gun,I had A problem putting mine back together also. I find mine very

My hammers back easiily pull back and the gun breaks open easily.  The shells fall out by theselves without any polishing.
I will try what you suggest regarding the automatic safety.

I purchased a hammerless Spartan shotgun in 12ga. in Febuary. It was a booger to get together and very tight. I purchased it at a gun store in Athens Ga that has a once a year sale where all guns are at cost ( used at a reduced price as well). I payed $210 for mine. Here is what I neede to do to mine:
1 Hone the cylinders. Shells hard to extract.
2 Action job. Opening and closing tight. Heavy springs. Excessive cocking force.
3 Disengaged automatic safety
Once I had it honed  and had the action job, it was great. All in all, I was out $210 for the gun plus tax, and $125 for the action, honing job and disengaging aout safety. I have been satisfied with mine.
My circumstances were unique in buying so inexpensively. Otherwise, I would have bought a Stoeger.

I had to do the same with my pre- 01  import deal Stoeger.
It looks like the newer deal which include Beretta/Uberti/Bennile deal the new Stoegers are nicer.

that said... your looking to spend $400 +  ? ...do yourself a favor get a TTn 78 ( mine was/is untouched right out of the box )
extracts smartly , slick , came with light springs installed ( OEM springs included as spares) and the rebounding hammers are the safety ( no tang safety to fool with) a little stiff @ the lever, but not bad....

The picture at the begining of the posr shows a sible trigger model a spar 210 . I have one cylinders did nt need honing but had an action job so it would stay open. Came with 2 sets of chokes. I like it . Wood is real nice . I havent used it much I have too much fun with the 87 lever but I believe the 210 ias faster, at least for me.

I have a plain jane model, they called the "basic" when EAA brought them in.  Had no trouble at all with it, but it was pretty hard to open when new.  But hey, so were the last couple Browning Citoris I bought.

You hit the nail on the head Will, I couldn't figure out what was wrong with the pic! Only one trigger!!!! When did they invent that gimmick? Mick.
