Thinking of adding a russian to my collection. I only shoot bp, does anyone offer a 246gr rn?

Bear Creek has them moly coated, and Buffalo Arms sells them with SPG lube, though spendy! I have used both and they are great.

This is not an answer to your question ::) However my preferences for 44 Russian are the Mini MAV Big Lube and the MAV 44 from Mark Wythe. 180Gr and 200Gr respectively and both cary a truck load of lube for the BP aficionado. Most other bullets, primarily made with "crayon" lube, don't lube well for BP and actually don't carry enough lube for BP.
DISCLAMER: I have ZERO experience with Moly Coated bullets and can't comment on how well or not well they behave with BP.

I have had good luck using the same MAV D bullets lubed with SPG that I load in my 44 WCF cartridges. They are about 200 grains and work just fine in my .44 Russian conversion revolver.
I size them to .428" for both calibers after casting them in a six cavity mold.

If you want to be "authentic", Montana Bullet Works sells a Lyman 429383 245g RNPB. You can get them unquenched which will run around 12 Bn and he will lube them with SPG if you ask.

If you want to be really authentic then know that the first .44 Russian bullets were outside lubricated until the mid 1880's and early ones were circa 260 gr. ;D

Well beat me with a stick. Sorry I led people astray in light of your "more authentic" cartridge description. I'll go throw away all the books that say the Russians specified they wanted an inside lubricated bullet and S&W designed the cartridge with a 246g projectile. Funny how history gets so many things wrong.

I checked some old catalog scans. The .44 American was 225/23 and the .44 Russian was 256/23 in the UMC 1880. In the 1884 UMC the Russian was the same, but the American dropped to 218. By 1899 the Russian dropped to 246.

I went with the Lyman 429251 (255 gr) bullet design. Lyman listed as the standard bullet for the 44Russian. From Lyman and Ideal Mold website -- '429251 Standard for .44 S&W Russian with 4.5 grains of Bullseye. (PB, ? - TP is 251)'. It loads to a shorter OAL than listed for standard 44Rus
I use the Lyman 429383 (245gr) for the 44Spl.
I really would like to get my hands on a Lyman 429384 (241 gr) bullet mold and try it in a 44Rus. It has a longer nose length (than the 429251) sort of like the original 44Rus just lighter. It may load to the proper 44Rus OAL but really don't know.

I also like a conventional 165Gr RNFP for the 44 Russian. I'm not interested in "Authentic" for the most part. I want Lightest and lowest recoil. Oh, and I shoot APP.

I use the RCBS .44-200 for everything .44. It casts at about .430 and can be sized to suite your fancy.

I acquired 500 of these Lyman 429251 (255 gr) bullet and 700 new Starline brass , when I bought my original S&W Russian
from Tuolumne Lawman.
I'll rate as my #1 choice ( pushed by 19 grains KIK 3FFF compressed and roll crimped )
Also have Missouri Bullets ( just abut the same , 23 Grains KIK compress and roll crimped )
