Title: Two new California Slim Jims
Post by: Graveyard Jack on July 26, 2018, 09:21:01 AM
There's actually three but these are the two I have near completion. They turned out a whole lot darker than I planned so I've been playing with aging them. I first tried to wash some of the dye out with denatured alcohol, which did help. Then I scuffed up the finish with steel wool, added some wrinkles and cracks. Then a couple coats of EVOO. Finishing and buffing afterwards seems to have cleaned up most of that so I probably need to hit them with steel wool again.

Have a full set I’m just finishing up that went a lot darker than planned. Dyed Mahogany they look almost black unless in direct sunlight, and then the red starts to show.

Thanks guys!

I've started my first money belt to complete the rig. Might do both rifle and pistol loops, with a bunch of antiqued spots and conchos.

Those look really good. I'd say leave them as they are. Double thumbs-ups on the pair.
