Title: Damn you Gunbroker!
Post by: Drydock on November 11, 2017, 10:18:59 AM
So I'm cruising GB,  and I enter "Argentino"  because I like looking at Argentine Mausers, and something different pops up.  It's not usually labeled this way.  Good condition (arsenal refinished in the 1890s, with a new barrel installed then, you can tell by the stampings) and a nice cheap minimum bid.  So I drop the minimum bid.

4 days later:  C'mon, some one else bid, anyone, pleeeaaase!

Damn.

So much for this years safety bonus.  Well,  I did want one of these, anyone who likes single shots should have one.  And it's a dandy shooter.

HA!!

Nice Rifle.  Normally, when I fancy something on GB and drop a bid, some sniper comes along in the last 6 seconds and takes it for a dollar more.  I hate Gunbroker.

GB has a 15 min. rule which prevents sniping. Any bids placed within the last 15 minutes extends the bid time to another 15 min. and continues until no bids are placed during the last 15 min.

FWIW, having this thing in my hands, and playing around with it, has solved something that always has puzzled me about the Rolling block.

The Hammer has always looked wrong to me, awkward, badly shaped for either thumb or fingers.

However,  having it on my lap, my hand resting on the action while fooling with the sight,  I realized something:  The hammer spur is perfectly shaped for the heel of my hand.  Thus, with the rifle shouldered,  I cock it with the heel of my hand, one finger flipping open the breechblock, the other fingers pulling the cartridge.  With some practice it almost becomes one motion, and is surprisingly fast, though none of it is as door kicking instinctive as cycling a Trapdoor.  Then grab a cartridge, thumb it in, slamming the block closed again with the heel of the same hand.  Damn satisfying in its own way.

Actually, truth be known, I really prefer t open the breechblock, place the BELT, close the breechblock and shoot till the belt runs dry.

True happiness is a belt fed weapon.  Yepper!!
