Title: Shoulder Board Postition
Post by: Books OToole on October 25, 2005, 02:37:15 pm
Where should officer's shoulder boards be postitioned on a sack coat?

The shoulder seam is well beyond my shoulder.

Regulation placement of the Epaulettes was about 1/2' from the shoulder seam of the coat.

It didn't vary much at all.

Thanks, St. George.

I was just looking at some CW pictures in the Time-Life set.  They seem to be positioned just as you stated.  However most of the uniforms seem to be better tailored than mine.

Thanks again;

The Sack Coat was designed and thought of as a 'Campaign Coat' - so comfort was paramount.

What era do you portray?

I'm sewing on Artillery Capt. boards for the GAF shoot.  It is the first time for this 'character.'  It will be the one I usually sign off with on this site.  It is a (non-existant) Vol. Battery during the Indian war era.  I needed a uniform to go with the Mountain Howitzer.

The Howitzer will be opening the ball, this weekend.

I'm going to sew shoulder boards on to my "Salute to the Military" dress.  They're a little wide.  Do you bend them a bit to get a curve?

Thank you kind sir!  I shall bend away.   :)  I really like these - I chose the Eagles - Colonel, if I remember correctly, or maybe Captain, or maybe I don't remember at all.  I do think Colonel Chantilly has a certain "ring" to it though, but then, I think Queen Chantilly sounds good also.   ::)

You will be a Colonel, m'lady.  Unless you join the Navy.  Then you will be a Captain.

...and the little birdy looks a tad bit different between the landlubbers and swabbies.  ;)

I suppose it will have to be Colonel Chantilly, the landlubber (who thinks Jaws is just waiting off the coast to get her).   :o
