Title: Battalion of Eastern Nebraska (402) report here.
Post by: Bow View Haymaker on May 19, 2009, 09:22:31 AM
Greeting,

I am asking for a roll call of all the GAF members and friends of the battalion of eastern Nebraska here.

Name or alias and e-mail are sufficient.  Where your at and where you shoot CAS would be helpfull also.

Also welcome are our friends from the western Iowa clubs who may frequent our Nebraska shoots or just want to be kept up to date as well.

I will try to keep in contact about the local CAS, GAF and other old timey happenings in the area.

If you want to try a GAF battle rifle catagorie at a CAS match.  The Columbus Rifle Club cowboy matches offer the basic battle rifle classes along with other more traditional CAS classes.

thank you and that is all.

Thanks for the replies.  I know ther are more out there.

on a side note we have restructured our cowboy classes as the Columbus Rifle Club Cowboy matches to be more GAF friendly

The new classes are in the columbus thread of the Nebraska forum.
We tried it the end of may and all went well.
our hope is for a 2 day 10 stage event the last (5th) weekend of August.  A good warm up for the national muster.

Keep the info coming and I will try to keep up on my end.

Commander Bow View:

There is a new feller from La Vista that we will be recruiting soon.
He always dresses in the Indian Wars period uniforms.

Are you still shooting SASS at the Clark Range on Friday afternoons?
I will be in Columbus in 2 weeks for an American Legion meeting.  While there, I want to get in an afternoon of shooting.

Sorry gregg but the Friday afternoon shoots went away a couple of years ago when the locals lost interest.  We started following SASS safety standards and using a timer and most of the local rifle club members didn't want to play anymore.  We have been trying to regain thier interest ever since.  Scruffy and I shot through the last match Sat evening before the Sunday match.

If your in town though let us know and we can prob ably get you some range time.

So what do ya think of a 10 stage 2 day mini  muster/CAS match the end of August?

I realize that being in the 308 area code technically I am not a member of the Eastern District; however, I do consider myself a member of both and therefore am reporting in.

I know  :'( :'( :'( I still haven't figured out a way to be in 2 places at once :( IF CSG wasn't a tradition for me now and If I didn't really care about the whole idea of the CSG, I'd be at yours that weekend. As it is I'm going to get to one of yours just as soon as I can, especially after having taken the RO classes there.

Who's all planning on shooting at The Nebraska Territorial Rangers Big Annual Match at the end of September?
Might be worth offering a Color gaurd ar at least having an informal get together or info table set up or some way of geting the word about the GAF out more and a chance to get together.  As of now I am planning on being at the match.  I hope to be there for the whle thing and shoot.  I don't have any period camping eqipment just the back of the pickup or a tent.
Maybe if we put our heads together we can someup with something and get the match directors OK.

Well, me good intentions aside, I will not be able to shoot the NTR match, but I think I will be there as a vendor on Saturdayand into the evening.  I would love to see if the GAF members could all get together and sort of put faces with the names.  No roll call but just a sort of Bull session.  Look for the High Plains booth (and I am not trying to use this as a commercial)  Maybe we can drum up some last minute entries for the muster.

Salute,
Brvt. Maj. Bow View

Howdy to all our CAS friends,               11/15/2009

I would like to see the Columbus, NE Cowboy matches become a place for GAF members to shoot the GAF classes when they want to and a place to get together for the Eastern Nebraska Battalion for the GAF but we are struggling to even keep our CAS program goin.  I am asking your help in determining if we should continue having CAS matches at the Columbus Rifle Club next year.  We have been trying for about 4 years now to provide another opportunity for Cowboy Action Shooters with limited results.  The Columbus Rifle Club has about 130 members.  There are 3 members who participate in the CAS matches and a couple of others who have helped or watched.  Most of our attendees have been from out of town and usually shoot at other clubs.  Their support of our matches is greatly appreciated.  We have averaged about 10 shooters at our matches.  This is barely enough to run a match smoothly.
We recognize that there are different types of CAS:  SASS, NCOWS, Western 3 Gun, and The Grand Army of the Frontier as well as independent clubs that are open to those from all of the above.  We have worked towards the latter, having a class structure that has a place for shooters from all aspects of CAS.  I have a few questions for you that might help us determine what we could do to attract more shooters or if it’s time to leave the Cowboy Action matches to clubs with more interest in CAS.

1.  Where is your “home” club or where do you shoot the most?
2.  What type of CAS shooting do you enjoy the most? SASS, NCOWS, GAF, W3G, or independent (inclusive of all).
3.  Do you prefer 1-day “monthly” shoots or multi-day weekend events?
4.  What is your favorite part of CAS?  The shooting, the clothes, the history, the camping, the people, the reloading, the competition, the guns, is it the combination of them all or something else?
5.  Would you rather shoot 1-day matches on Saturday or Sunday, or a weekday evening?
6.  Do you prefer a detailed storyline in the scenarios or just the basic order?
7.  Would you like to help build the CAS program in Columbus, Nebraska?
8.  If you have shot CAS with us, what did you like about the match?   What could we do better or different?
9.  If you haven’t shot CAS with us, or don’t want to, why not? (please be honest here.  That’s what we need)
10.  Is there any 1 thing that would make you interested or more interested in shooting Cowboy Action at the Columbus Rifle Club?

Please let us know your answers on these questions and ideas.  We really hate the idea of giving up CAS at CRC but without some changes, we will have to.  You can e-mail me your answers and ideas at pjarens@frontiernet.net or mail them to P.O. Box 1122, Columbus, NE 68602.  We are looking forward to hearing from you and hopefully planning at least a couple great matches for the 2010 CAS season.
If you have any questions, call (402) 270-1697 or (402) 276-1391.

Respectfully,
Bow View Haymaker (Paul Arens), CRC, NRA, SASS, GAF
Scruffy Skippy (Skip Fricke), CRC, NRA, SASS, GAF
Gunless Bigfoot (DJ Hogan), CRC, NRA, SASS, NCOWS

BTT

We are leaning towards having an imformal shoot one friday evening a month.  This is how cowboy got started at our club and hopfully we can get more local interest again.  We will be having at least one Sunday match also.
We are still looing for input and ideas.  We welcome shoooters from GAF, SASS, and NCOWS and new shooters as well.

There will be a CAS table at the Crete Gun Show.  I will have some GAF info there but won't be able to help man the table.  If any GAF members would like to patricipate in promoting the GAF part of CAS.  it would be great.  Check out the like listed for more info.

Read this topic troops.

A chance for the Solders of the Bettalion of Eastern Nebraska to muster up and get some practice in.
We maybe even let some of those troops from western Nebraska and Iowa and the Dakota territory come join us. (or anyone interested. We ain't picky)
