Title: Military revolver??
Post by: Spanish Marshal on February 11, 2006, 05:01:59 PM
Hi  from Spain:

Gentlemen, I need your help again.

I have a friend, a young lieutenant, that has an old revolver, ( LEFAUCHEUX system), that his father-in-law has given him. The weapon comes from America, a grandfather brought it when he returned to Spain many years ago. I think that it´s a military handgun, maybe for the ring that  it has on its butt. I have been looking at it attentively and I have not found the maker's mark, alone a serial number. The caliber is perhaps 10 mm. or bigger.

Can Anybody  recognize it?   ??? ???

Thank you very much in advance.

                       Spanish Marshal

Spanish Marshal,

From the pictures that you posted it looks like a pinfire weapon and just from the design possibly french, or english.  Sorry I could not be of more help, but I am sure someone on this board will recognize it.

I need to get another look at my friends gun.
It is as I remember it , exactly as you have shown.

His a Belgian Pin Fire 11 MM, the trigger guard is identical.

Without examination for proof house marks - it looks like the revolver is a Belgian copy of the Lefaucheaux - perhaps with license - making it a 'Lefaucheaux-Francotte'.

Originally pinfire - some were later made as centerfire.

Among these are:

11mm Swedish M1871 Trooper's revolver
10mm Danish M1882 Trooper's revolver
9mm Danish M1886 Officer's revolver

Francotte's imprint is a small 'AF' stamped on the frame.

He also copied the early Smith & Wesson line, as well as revolvers made by Adams and Tranter and advertising no less than 150 types of revolvers in his line.

Vaya,
